***UPDATED*** 3rd Gen Multimedia Updates

Does anyone know what the update actually takes care of?

 

Take a look at the appropriate TSB that is attached in the first post...

 

i used the same usb stick i used to do the last update. still had only the previous file on it so i deleted and put the new files on and was unable to see an update doing the same things in the same way that i did last time. i'll try again tomorrow but i don't know if i even care - i only experience the occasional reboot and none of the other symptoms mentioned

 

Thanks Op! My HU kept rebooting every other day and it was frustrating having to choose my USB music everytime it did this. It was happening more frequently for the past 6 months or so. I just did the update yesterday so we will see if it fixes the problem.

 

I'm on 0101a4 from January this year. If that is the current update then I'm still having the random reboots.

 

Then I'd pull the cover, unscrew the radio mounting screws and reseat all plugs in the back, at a minimum.

 

Yes, that is according to the TSB (assuming A5 doesn't apply to headunits that updated to A4)

 

Thanks, OP. Although it was a challenge to find a USB drive small enough, I found an old 16gb MicroSD card that I put in an adapter. Updated without issue but I haven't really had problems with the previous firmware. Just wanted to be up to date. Thanks!

 

thank you for sharing. my 2021 I bought in July had 1730 installed, makes me wonder how many updates they put out in a year that we are at 1785 now.

 

It's just software minor updates. As a developer, whenever I make a change, even minor such as fixing a typo, I have to check it back into source control, and thus it gets assigned a new version number. Normally these are minor revisions, but each system is different and I don't know what the Toyota (or head unit manufacturer) uses. BUT at any rate, almost always the number won't be sequential. So, not to worry. Probably there are only one or two actual public releases in a year, if that many, but the values will be very far apart due to internal development. Which means, at least, that they are actually working on the software and not just letting it get stale.

 

I was hoping the new firmware would fix the problem but my HU still reboots as much as it did prior to the update.

 

If you have navigation, see if removing the SD card fixes your reboot issue.

 

Removing the nav SD made the navigation better because I had to use Google maps

 

what about 2022s?

 

I updated at the dealer, without having to connect any USB. Isnt that the same thing? Or is this a different type of firmware update I'd have to check also?

Different update. These updates are usually fixes for issues, whereas the OTA update you mentioned can bring new features.

 

I thought so. Since mine has not been done or checked, I'll check it and have the dealer update firmware when they have the truck this week for all my other stuff going on.
