I put a deposit down on an access cab base 4 banger,

I know that with other trucks and cars i have owned, things like upgrading non power mirrors for example is a matter of getting the switch and the motorized mirrors, the wiring is already there.

are upgrades like that the same with a the taco? such as back up camera, ect?

I would think that it would be very painful in the wallet area to retro-fit the backup camera system.
Likewise for fog lights if you try to go OEM....there are threads here on how to aftermarket the fogs.
Take another look at the SR5 #2 package before you pull the trigger and see if it will work for you.

If its an 09 - 010 and the camera is in the tailgate, you only need the rear view mirror which is plug and play.

Fog Lights can be added for +-$200 aftermarket but OEM style.

You can add intermittent wipers by buying the stalk.

I don't know if power mirrors are pre-wired, but I dont think it would be that difficult to add if you are comfortable wiring.

Some come with some pre-wiring that makes adding cruise control a breeze.

It used to be a lot easier to retrofit some of the goodies back earlier in the generation (starting in 2005), but now Toyota is making some of it more difficult. For example, all of the wiring for the factory cruise control used to be right there in the steering wheel - so all you had to do was buy the cruise control stalk and hook it up and boom... you had cruise. But now all of the wiring may not be there. You can still make it work, but you'll have to run wire all the way from the steering wheel to the ECU, etc. (there are posts here somewhere that tell you exactly how to do it).

Making the back-up camera work used to be a matter of just buying the rearview mirror with the monitor in it because the camera and all of the wiring was in place, but now they're not putting cameras & wiring in all of the tailgates (my '09 base-model reg. cab 2WD 4-banger DOES have the camera & wiring in the tailgate). Now they're sticking a plastic blank in the handle where the camera goes. You can always buy the camera & hook it up though. Not sure how cost-effective that would be.

You can still do some of the other things pretty easily though... like get intermittent wipers just by buying and installing the intermittent wiper control stalk - and you can put the fog lights & switch in a number of ways. There are some kits on eBay that mount & look just like OEM for a fraction of the OEM cost. Just use the search function on here and you'll find all the info you need.

When I got my acces cab, I really wanted a base model like the reg cab I traded in. I ended up going with the SR5 package in the end and am glad I did. I thought the idea of a back up camera was kinda goofy at first, now I don't know what I did without it.

If you don't have the option of plug and play installation. I am sure there are some DIY threads that show how to install some upgrades.

+3, you will get your money back at trade in time. Plus many of the options make the truck more liveable. Just the tinted side and rear windows make the A/C work much more efficiently. You wont be sorry.

You should just get one that already has everything you want like the camera and the power windows and locks...

I actually want a base, but was curious about what wiring might be existing in case i wanted to add anything factory. most of what i want to do will all be after market anyways, so i can do what i want to with it.

just picked up my 2010 base 4x4 and while i have not been able to do a lot of investigating yet, it does have the wiring for the rear view camera, at least in the tailgate, not sure about to the headliner area for the mirror though.

i am glad i went with base, i like the sr5 for some of the goodies, but the look of the base looks better to me especially in some colors, the unpainted flares and black bumper just look sexy on dark colors.

plus the access cab has all the reg. comfort features that we are used to, pw, pl, ac cd with sat. ready reciever.

The SR5 package is the best deal since sliced bread. I am so glad to have it on my Access Cab.

Transfer your deposit to a unit with the SR5. You will not be sorry.
