God Bless Texas! Thankfully, I don't have to deal with that. I've had to back up a similar driveway that was loose caliche and I would go with others' comments of using 4lo. When I tried to do it in 2WD, the truck went crazy, engaging every anti-wheelspin, throttle limiting, brake engaging thing in it's arsenal. It sounded/ smelled like hell and didn't move anywhere. Tried turning off traction control and still no-go. Put it in 4lo and turned on ATRAC and it crawled right out.

LOL, I noticed that after posting it, too. We ski after closing at a place here in Colorado and get to watch them groom some of the steeper blue and mild blacks (the runs under lift 1 at Loveland, if anyone's familiar), it's pretty cool to see something that big going up that stuff even if it's not a 60 degree monster like the photo seemed to imply. :) The winch points they have up there are hell for stout, too.

I just copied that picture and pasted it into AutoCAD. It's about a 26° pitch. Steep enough for me. I don't know how people ski 50°+ pitches.

You of all people should realize our reverse ratio sucks! I say that because you own a manual as well. I have to put it in 4lo when reversing with any sort of load otherwise I'll be smelling clutch afterward. :bananadead:

Who designs that in a place where it snows? My driveway isn't near that steep but still has a decent angle and can be annoying in the winter.

No way would I want to do that with a MT. Toyota put a ridiculously high reverse in these trucks (significantly higher than 1st gear). AT should be fine, just slipping the torque converter.

100% agree. Reverse on loose terrain/ steep incline with a manual is a 4 low situation.

4lo is the way to go for reversing under load in an MT. That's what I have to do in the off chance I'm in that situation.

If I had that driveway, instead of using salt, I'd hook up the garden hose to a hot water outlet to melt off the ice on my driveway on cold mornings, trust me- it works great!

He's already got a 4x4 according to his profile on the side.

Oh I'm not seeing it... Then 4 lo should make short work of that.

We had a driveway like that, moving in and out of the house sucked. It only snowed about twice a year and we parked at the bottom if there was any chance of ice/snow. Another issue was wet leaves in the fall.

I had a '90 land cruiser at the time and I backed it up all the time, sometimes if there was loose debris/dirt or wet leaves or rain I would have to use 4Hi, never had any issues though. Luckily we had a turn around area at the top I could 3 point in/out pretty easily. I don't think I ever used/needed 4L to navigate it.

Somebody else mentioned garbage cans, yeah that sucked thanks :\

Here is a picture of the day we moved out, we had to setup a makeshift ramp to get the Penski truck backed up, and even then we scraped and gouged the crap out of the driveway as you can see. Picture does not do it justice:
