You could do the DSIM kit, but be careful if you are just using it as you don’t want to overload that circuit. The new DSIM kit uses the cargo switch, which I think is just a ground contact (non-PWM)? I made a set up for a guy on here using the old style DSIM, and a relay so his rock lights would function with the dome or his switchpro. I’ll try to write it up sometime this week. He only used 2 lights on the DSIM though. If you really want to use a lot of lights, I personally (as it is what I did on my truck) like the idea idea of using the old style DSIM as a trigger for a separate dimmer. I originally used an Oznium fader module. It uses ground side PWM, so you have to have a dedicated ground (just like puddle lights). It can do 8A though, so a lot of rock lights. I have been toying with another module from timers.shop though, it does positive side PWM, so there is a lot more you can do with that. But doing a separate module means a delay between the dome and the rock lights. They come on at the same time, but the dome light fades, and then my outside lights fade. But it doesn’t bother me.

Thanks punter. I did buy the DISM lights but I don't think they will work. Just want them to run to a dedicated switch, to turn on when I want to. Should be easy right?

If you just want a switch to turn them on and off, that is really easy. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you need anything :)

That light array looks great. Can you show me a photo of how they are mounted onto the rack? Thanks.

I'd happily contribute to a "Hammock Talk/BS Thread" if you wanted to start one lol. I had similar thoughts on a previous vehicle with a roof rack, and talked myself out of it after hearing of stories of people ripping off racks/rails from their vehicle. I'm no engineer, but side loading a rack like that just 'seems' like a terrible idea.

Oh, I thought by the reply there's already one (or several) in existence - either on this very thread or some place around tacomworld, haha

    according to rt4 vid: https://youtu.be/DeCpy7m3jL4?t=528
the handles can hold up to 500 pounds, thus shouldn't rip off, however, when I talked to the rt4 guys in person they recommended not putting the hammock on the handles but the rails themselves. the handles in person did seem like a kind of plastic.

Yeah, definitely no way I'd trust the grab handles, regardless of material. The material of handle is only as strong as the two M6/M8 bolts holding it on lol. Again, I'm no expert, and can't really speak to shear/tensile bolt strengths and all that jazz; I just wouldn't trust it. I think a decent solution however, would be to run the hammock strap completely across the entire rack, wrapping underneath and securing it somehow, to make the entire load a downward weight on the rack instead of side pulling. But again, I'm no expert.

Then saying that the handles can support up to 500 pounds and using pictures like this as promo is rather misleading.

I'm not saying it can't be done; I'm openly admitting I don't understand the ratings - therefore, I don't trust the ratings. And its really not a matter of how much can the rack/handles/bolts hold, its a matter of side loading a rack verses downward weight on top of a rack. If the handles/bolts broke, its not a huge deal; minor inconvenience when you hit the ground. I'd really be more worried the bolts holding the rack to the vehicle (breaking/bending/cracking) and not knowing theres a compromise until I go to drive my truck/hit the brakes. Again, I don't understand those ratings, and I completely open to have my mind changed by someone who does (because I'd love to hang my hammock from my rack also!).

For sure. All good things to consider. I've also heard the horror story of racks just flipping off trucks. Scary stuff. Still, it's rather misleading to advertise it this way if the handles truly can't support it. 500lbs is lot to me.

I have a question for those with tent risers... is there a particular way to install them ? I saw in 1 video a guy had the fronts pointing forward and the rear pointing toward rear

Any suggestions on how to get the wiring out to the TLS? Also I keep going back and forth on if I want to run the eX cap rack. I plan on going with a mid height truss and running a RTT, and really just want it for the cleaner set up on lighting when camping. Is anyone running the eX cap on a might height with some pics, most that I see have it paired with a full cab height.
