    I dont have any experience with AAL so maybe it will do the trick for you. I read that the longer thinner leafs are best to add if you want to have good travel.

    With my wore out 4 y/o dakars on my x-tra cab w/o any weight in the back road great! I recently replaced the leaf pack with a new dakar set, and added the D6XL. But I quickly removed it. It was a firm sumsabitch and zero flex. When I get my topper next spring I'll probably reinstall it.

    Your topper is EXACTLY, to-the-tee what I want! I'm stoked they do custom builds.

    We should meet up, any friends I have with trucks are scured to even scuff their tires...:p

    882's with ARB bullbar, 4 corner nitro sports, 80 series med/heavy nitros in the rear.

    Install winch, install the AAL, extend rear brake line, new rear bumper, finish/revise the subwoofers (there's a reason there aren't pics of that part of the audio install-it's not done and looks like shit!), fix the fender flares, maybe put them back on, maybe have Jerry at BAMF build me a roof basket mounted on the shell, add more layers of Herculiner (shit' weak!), install my clear corner lights and instal the turn signals in them better (currently ghetto rigged and one is out), sound deaden the roof (only area I didn't do, make better speaker rings for the mids, and GO WHEELING!!!

    So you're saying the D6XL was more comfortable with the old Dakars and a little too stiff on new ones?
    The topper might not make a big difference, they actually don't weight that much. I could lift the weight myself without too much difficulty, and I'm not big. It's just awkward to handle alone so two people is a good idea. Pretty much any good shell is custom built, they don't tend to stock them.

    I need to verify which OME shocks I have. I think they are med all around.

    I would believe that. For the moment though, I'll try the AAL as I currently spend more time hauling heavy loads on mild surfaces than needing max articulation on the trail. I searched the D6XL and it seemed people had plenty of flex with the D6XL un Moab etc.

    Well, what I think is: dakars will settle under normal conditions. They'll probably settle quicker with a double cab or a constant load. X-tra cab with new dakars & aal, with no load will take a while to break in. Properly worn springs then adding the aal on an xtra cab with topper I would guess would be more plush.
    That's my thoughts thou...

    But then again I have the med/heavy rear nitros.

    Light is, iirc, the 60062 and med/heavy is the 60065. Front nitros for first gens are either original or sport.

    I know pics would be better than text banter, but any i have are pretty boring and relatively "not hardcore or interesting". Like this from this weekend:

    Doesn't show quite how dented the shock is but is an example of how even casually messing around on some boulders can beat on your rig.

    Let's see, went surf camping this week in Butano. Jumped off some ocean cliffs, got my ass kicked by a few waves, floated around on my surfboard, spent a few nights in the camper shell (awesome), had a "bear proof food locker" opened and raided by raccoons, and messed around on some rocks and bashed my pass side shock. Would a pic make it better?

    Doesnn't seem to hurt function but seems like a really vulnerable setup for such mild wheeling and makes me worry about that for when its time to get rowdy and have some fun...

    Yeah swing outs are really cool I just had to draw the line somewhere with my rear bumper build cost, but It's almost always better mounted on a swing out.

    I'm in the North Beach area.

    Thank you. Yeah the shell is awesome and pretty cozy to sleep in. The only uncomfortable part is the ridges on the bed floor. I think I'm going to get some masonite sheet and cut out a section that fits between the wheel wells so its flat over the ridges on the bottom and then lay foam over that for sleeping on. I can keep the foam rolled up with a strap or bungy cord in the back then just unroll it when I want to sleep.

    Last week I bought a set of front, belly pan and crossmember skids from Jerry at BAMF since he is going SAS. So later this month those are going on, plus the AAL and winch. Waiting on the rear bumper but it probably wont be for another 4-6 weeks.

    I have been thinking about a rack for the shell, possibly that extends over the extra cab section of the cab but I've been enjoying surfing so much lately I think I'm going to get a 8'5" Long board which wont fit in the bed, so I'll need to factor that into my rack plans. the rails on the camper are aluminum and ARE says it can support 300 lbs. The question is whether I'm going to use Yakima/Thule base rack towers or just figure out a way to mount a fuly custom basket directly to the rails so it sits lower and I'd rather pay Jerry for fab work than buy Yakima/Thule parts. I guess it just depends on how I can fit the long boards up there with the rack...

    try to get one soon if you want an Elite I'm not sure if Tim is going to be making them mich longer, but I could be wrong. Relentless makes a very similar one. Duratracs would have been a better choice for me for the use since I got them but the MTRs are an excellent tire, and once I start wheeling it harder I think they will be ideal. Except Now I want 33s.
