I just put a supercharger on and I must say I'm very impressed. 34" tires and 4.10 gear on the 3.4 motor I was worried about gearing. I'm actually happy with where it is now. I am getting no ping or knock issues as of now. Is the 7th injector worth the money. They are claiming and extra 30-40 hp with the Trd pulley. Can anyone weigh in on this who has went from supercharged the the 7th injector kit. Thanks

Yeah it's worth the money if you don't wanna blow up your motor.

The pulley is definitely worth it. I felt I added a noticeable difference throughout the power band. And if you run the pulley, you'll need the extra fuel along with it.

Its not just the 30-40 peak but it helps out throughout the range. Some say its a must for reliability reasons aswell.

Personally id regear to 4.88s. You dont actually spend alot of time in boost while driving around normally and youl definitely notice a difference.

I do mostly road driving. I'm in the gulf coast in Texas so there not many hills. The gearing now feels pretty good. I'd probably go 4.56. I feel a 4.88 would be to low for 99.5% road driving. Not saying the 4.88 wouldn't be good I'm just not sure it would suit my driving condition as it does for others.

Funny how some don't get the ping and others get it bad. Unfortunately I'm in the latter group. High gear/low RPM = ping city for me (especially noticeable if I open the throttle on the freeway in 5th gear at 60-70mph). Before anyone asks, I always run 91 octane and I have ik20 spark plugs. But that's where the 7th injector will really help.

And yes, the smaller pulley is worth it and yes, if you get it you need to get the 7th injector as well

I was worried about the ping. I'm running ik22 plugs. I tried to make it ping. That is strange that some get it and some don't. My truck has 160k miles so I was worried about carbon build up and compression making it ping.

Yeah it really does seem to be on a truck by truck basis. Altitude has a lot to do with it as well but I'm close to sea level. I'm going to upgrade my plugs to ik22 next to see if it helps, if not then the 7th injector is likely my next mod.

I don't ever really get ping in any gear other than 5th so Im not terribly worried about it, but if I'm climbing a freeway grade at 70 mph it sometimes starts to ping and I dont want to hold 4th gear at that speed going uphill. Not a common scenario but occurs often enough to be concerning.

I'm at sea level as well . You should try the ik22 I found them on eBay for like $36.00 shipped to my door. Hopefully it helps you.

Thanks, for all the help. I know I've asked quite a few random questions on this forum over the past week or two. Just trying to gain knowledge. It took me 5 months to find my truck and I'm just trying to make sure it's right.

No worries! I'm pretty sure I annoyed the crap out of everyone here with all my questions after I got my truck back in March lol. Fortunately, the 1st gen forum especially is one of the best forums for straightforward advice. A lot of knowledgeable owners in these parts

I've got the TRD super charger and no 7th injector
It runs fine but I do get the ping if I put my foot into it. the truck has had the supercharger on there its whole life.
Im looking into changing the plugs to see if that helps.
there is no way I can afford a 7th injector kit. just going to keep my foot out of it.

Sounds like we're in the same boat. What kind of plugs do you have on right now? If they're the stock copper ones, then changing to iridium will help a ton...it did for me. I still get some pinging but it's not as bad as it used to be.

Keep a look out in the 1st gen for sale section. Once in a while used one will pop up for a decent price. I've seen them sell on the board for around $550.

I'd recommend the kit. For the peace of mind and because then you can run smaller pulleys.

Just keep in mind that the tuner that comes with the 7th kit typically functions in open loop and not so much in closed loop. Some still experience some pinging even when using the 7th inj when using it right out of the box. Many times it will require a little more fine tuning by the end user.

I've had to fuck with mine like 10x to get it closer to perfect. And yeah the closed loop is annoying.

I'm good on pinging. Literally have non. I just want to run a smaller pulley and be safe.
