actually this is what i've read, but not as much good info as here (thanks for the detail). the common thing i've read is that fat fingers or large hands is the biggest part of the problem. for the rest of us it's just a tight fit to do the install. for the big apes it's a serious PITA.

Honestly, that is the biggest problem. Getting everything in isn't too bad, but getting the bolts started and tightened is the worst part. Having a wife or kid with small hands will make things much easier. I cut the crap out of my meat hooks while using the thumb of one hand and middle finger of the other to move the bolt 1/8th of a turn at a time.

Just installed the URD short shift kit in an 18 TRD OR. Had to use snips. Not as easy of an install as it’s made out to be on the URD site. The directions that URD has you download are for a 2nd gen and do not properly cover console removal, shifter removal, or utilization of the studs. For a product that costs over $100, you’d figure the instructions would match the model. I even called URD, they laughed saying “haha, yeah we haven’t updated that. Just follow the directions and you’ll be fine.” Unimpressed with the customer support. PITA install, hopefully the drive improvement is worth it....

    Fezzy,

The vibe I got was that they totally don’t care about the customer or the customer’s install. I had to call three times to actually get ahold of a person. Even then, the advice I got was useless.

Just reinforces my reasoning for supporting small time producers like Meso directly from TW.

Is a short shift kit cool? I guess. But what’s really cool is having access to someone that uses intimately knows the product that you’re installing on your not cheap ride.

    Just my two cents.

Installed. Also used snips. Went in easy & no issues. Shifts smooth & tight. Reverse requires a little muscle or a hard throw to engage. Feels nice.

I took my weighted SS knob with Aluminum core off to have it cerakoted and put the stock knob on in the interim. Wow what a difference the weighted knob makes. Such a better experience shifting it with the combo of the URD short shifter and the weighted knob. Cerakote paint job turned out pretty good too. 50BCAFC9-F678-41A1-96BD-B517029EEDC9.jpg9122FEDF-B30C-4A1D-B8D8-85EB73787BB9.jpg

How do you people not burn yormur hands on those metal knobs? Does it just never get hot there?

It doesn’t generally get hot in Portland, OR, but we did have several 90+ degree days this summer. I just close the moonroof shade and keep the knob shaded from direct sunlight.

But I also don’t keep my hand on the shifter all the time. It only takes a second or two to shift from gear to gear. I can imagine it might be an issue in warmer/southern climates though. This morning it was refreshingly cold to grip actually.

I had a metal trimmed shifter on an mx6 once, I hit bad traffic here and had literal burn marks on my hand before it cooled down from the AC.

Just joined the forum to figure out this shifter! Dude thanks for the great advice, it worked out perfectly!

Also, those worrying about the height; don't. I couldn't tell the difference. I believe it brings the stick closer towards the console rather the radio. Which for me being 6'2 with my seat back a bit, I find myself not having to reach for 3rd or 5th.

I thought I would share some information regarding my insulation. I did this a few days ago, and have both positive and negative things to share.

First the positives… The build quality seems high, and the results are absolutely outstanding. It’s a shame they didn’t sell the truck like this from the factory, it’s a much better experience all around. I do find rehearsed to be slightly more challenging, but not terrible. This is what a factory shift knob.

Now the negatives… The installation was not what I would call a deal. You can tell they set this up for the second generation to coma and never really transitioned into the third. The install instructions are nonexistent, and those that you find on the Internet are out of date. I spent about an hour trying to get it done and eventually just had to cut the metal trim, I don’t think it has any long-term effect but I painted it to prevent any rust or oxidation. My biggest qualm, I don’t care for the set screw set up that they used. It would’ve been very easy to do something better with this (even with their design of the short shifter) , but unfortunately no one else offers a different solution.

Overall, I am happy with it. It should not cost nearly as much as it does though, not with their current design. This should cost $75 tops.

Tinted windows + "clear" windshield tint.. it also just does not get that hot and I only touch it to shift, I don't rest my arm on it

So I'm also considering this for my '17 TDR Sport. Especially since the kit is on sale for $100 through Monday. Is there anyone in the NE IL or SE WI area that has the kit installed and would be willing to let someone compare it to factory stock? Not asking to drive the truck, just run through the gears a bit to see how different it feels. Thanks!

Youll love the way it feels, I wouldnt worry about that. It feels like a sports car shifter.

No pictures, and basically shaft split in two and I could use it to drive the truck. I have heard they added extra stress and I learned. Their design is great just more stress.

That thing is beautiful! How much did it cost to get it cerakoted? And how did you color the numbers?
