I want to mount a usb port on my 2000 tacoma somewhere so i can use it to charge various electronics. (digital camera, cell phone, ipod, etc) i know there are several options for cigarette lighter styles that plug in and have a usb port on back. i have one of those but i would like to intergrate that port into the truck somewhere looking for ideas. i also want it on all the time. I am good with electronics and fabrication just need ideas.

Do the 2000's have the two blanks to the right of the extra lighter ports under the the ash tray? One is for the alarm option but I think the other is always empty. Could be a good spot.

It may be different for you earlier model truck, but there should be a couple open spots below the ashtray that you can use. Or there is a spot behind your headlight switch/turn signals that you can use, although that would be kind of inconvenient. If anything, just try to find some sort of one-piece adapter that converts the cig lighter into a usb port, like so:

How about something ran into the center council so that you can keep your electronics out of the way while recharging?

That's a great idea. I have a usb plug in my head unit that I use to charge my phone if my ipod isn't plugged in. It works well, but gets in the way. Inside the console would be a good solution.

Use the search function, I know a few people have integrated 110v / usb plugs in their trucks in a few build ups.

Hitch and wiring, aux back-up light, rear strobe lights, radio and underseat sub.
How about taking one from a computer and mounting it to a panel, glove box, etc?
