Ok, then don't ask for advice publicly. If you don't want certain peoples opinion on how to get the job done. You are on a public forum where everyone has a different opinion, and everyone wants to share that opinion. I'm not saying my idea was the best, in my opinion, it was the cheapest, easiest way to do it. And that was my advice for doing it.

You have had plenty of ideas. Since you have access to all these tools and what-not, then make something. It really doesn't have to be that difficult.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
Alright now, stuff making love to one another, he wants wht he wants and just wants to know what others have done similar to what he wants to get ideas. Panda if you wanted a special in dash tri-pod done a particular way, we wouldn't hastle you about it (I'm on my phone, but this is where a smiley sticking his tongue out would be).

I understand OP I am the same way, even mods I like to look like they came from the factory. I haven't looked up the dash yet, but just an fyi, the newer vehicles do have the ipod, aux, etc. wires running through the bottom of the glove box so you can then stow and lock whatever you have plugged. I'll take a look later when I get a second.

    Is this the right dash?
What is left of the air vents?
Or what about to the right of the ignition switch?

what about below the E-brake handle, the grey plastic piece, a USB port would easily go there, and you'd have plenty of room to run wires behind it.

what about the plastic around the shifter?

Do you use your ash tray? Have you thought of ditching the ash tray, and fabbing up a small plate to put there for switches, USB, etc?

If you don't use your cig. outlet change it for this, connect it to either the fuse box, or the 12V available at the outlet, Im not sure if you would need to drop the voltage to 5V though.
    http://store.mp3car.com/Automotive_Marine_USB_Cigarette_Port_Replacement_p/com-040.htm

I had use it before but instead for charging, I used for my head unit.

BTW you can also mount it some where else you like it has threads on the back with a nut, and when mounted it is pretty much flush.

I had a manual trans.. been there done that, I know what you mean. But USB cables are cheap, if you get good length and route it properly, it shouldn't get in the way. I don't your knee is gonna get wedged in that little hole where the E-brake is.

Do you have a console or the 60/40 bench w/ the armrest? What about mounting one on the console somewhere near the cupholders?

no problem, I know there are at least two other adapters similar to that one, but they are hard to find, this is the most accessible one I've found. If I find the others I'll post them, I had them bookmarked but formatted the PC so I lost them.
