Do you have an aftermarket stereo? If so how about putting a plate or something in the extra space there?

And is this the kind of interior you're working with (aside from the god awful carpeting of random sections)?

    Look at build!
Put it inside the center console, thats where mine is at for my radio. takes about 10 minutes to pull CC out and then just dremel a spot for it to fit and your done.

yes thats an interior very similar to mine aside from the cupholder beside the shifter and that carpeting thats scary. i want the usb port around the radio ashtray area ive narrowed it down to. dont want it in the center console. i have a double din radio so the extra space below the radio on a single din is gone.

I had a DD to and ran the usb cable in the little secret compartment under the main foldup center console! Have you tried looking into mounting it right above the 2 cig lighters? seems liek a pretty good spot.

i finally integrated usb ports into my truck. they are mounted up under the ashtray. I used 2 of the above for my ports. 1 set is for charging. the other i converted over for data. I just used the housing to have a nice look. made my own usb cable that i hooked to it that my radio can understand. For data i now how those to data ports plus i can leave my ipod plugged in like it is without using the ports i installed

the charger itself can not be used for data i tried. I robbed a dual stack usb port out of an old cheap usb hub. Desoldered the connecting pins. Cut the end off a usb cable and soldered the wires to the pins. I jumped the pins so that either port would be live

Sorry, didn't read the whole thread, so this may have been suggested, but a lot of the newer aftermarket head units come with usb ports. why don't you just get one of those?

have a newer headunit that has a usb port. I usually listen to my ipod which the cord is ran under the center console and my ipod lays in front of the cup holders. I wanted usb ports for charging. I have digital cameras, phones ipods etc. plus friends riding can charge up. I also added a set of usbs for data. made my own y cable going to my headunit. tried a usb hub but that wouldnt work so i used a y cable. i can only use one device at a time with my headunit which is fine. but friends sometimes have stuff we want to hear so this gives an easy place to plug in tunes and get power. the power ports are live all the time. I already finished this and have pics in the thread

Reading that above and looking at the pics on the previous page, I'm still unsure of what you did or accomplished.

Looks cool, but I have no idea what it all means *double-rainbow guy voice*
