Hey guys, so I recently just purchased a 17' TRD Pro and have noticed the wireless charger sucks and the USB port is basically worthless for charging. Upon further review I found for Toyota its basically just a data port.

Short of utilizing a charger in the power port similar to this... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GKRR4J...&pd_rd_r=c4919874-a57a-11e9-bd85-01c75db0a092

Can anyone tell me if there is a quick charge USB port that is a simple PNP? I have found a few on Amazon that fit and match in size, but I would rather not splice wires if I do not have to. If all else fails its not end of the world I can do to if needed.
    https://www.amazon.com/Cllena-Charg...t&qid=1563028559&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1

    Thanks in Advance.

I am not sure what the 17's have, but there might be a faster 12 volt power take off on the front wall inside the center armrest box . It has a flip cap, so a little hard to see . The USb on the dash works but to get it to work you have to shut the engine off , set up the cable and device and then start the engine. That had me doing a WTF big time . I guess Toyota doesn't want us driving and plugging things into that moving .

That’s what I bought. Great quality. The in-dash USB is a data port, not a charging port.

This is from the owners manual on my 2019 TRD OR. It's talking about the USB ports in the center arm rest/storage.......

"The USB charging ports are used to supply 2.1 A of electricity at 5 V to external devices. The USB charging ports are for charging only. They are not designed for data transfer or other purposes."

These work great, sit flush and two second mod with no cutting wires.

I believe to get that charging rate to function you have to plug in the device before the engine is started. I am not sure about that . If you know one way other the other please correct me .

Weird. I will have to compare to the other in the console, but the in dash was considerably slower than my 2.1A plug in CLA one.

If you don't want to use an adapter in the power outlet, then just do what @Tacospike said and swap out the power outlet with a dedicated USB port. They're only a few bucks. Also, as someone mentioned above, I think the newer Tacomas have 3 USB ports (1 low-amperage data port + two 2.1 amp charging ports).

I have a similar one in my truck, the wires that go to the cigarette lighter plugged right into the back of it. Hardest part is pullong the dash apart to get access to the wires and remove the cigarette lighter, but its worth it. Mine also has a voltmeter on it.Screenshot_20190715-112848_Chrome.jpg

Yeah, I saw some of those as well. Thought about getting one of those. Yeah the dash was a little tricky, I already had it taken apart for another mod I was doing, the MESO stage 2 DYI ECT shift knob so figured I would do this was well. Also wasn't a lot of wire slack to work with, just enough haha. I also didn't realize the cig has an L shaped adapter (o_O), thought I could unplug and plug but had to cut and splice. All good though

I installed this one on the weekend. I ran a dedicated power line to the fuse box in the driver footwell with an add a tap and grounded the black wire to the body. Now i have a fast charger as well as my data USB connection. It turns on and off with the truck.

Did you have to dremel the hole out at all to fit the new one? Mind posting a pic? I have been thinking about doing this lately but most say they have had to make the hole bigger to fit the new charger and I don't really want to do that.

Yes you have to dremel, but its really easy and even if your circle isn't perfect, the edge of the charger has a ring that will cover it up. 20190601_125845.jpg
