Sorry, don't have link, it's 3M Marine Grade silicone I got at a marine supply store, only about $8.

I'm only using it to plug the small frame holes- I think they're about 1/4-5/16"; I don't think it would be that difficult to remove all of it it later (I have a '13 so all the large frame holes were factory plugged). Additionally, the marine grade silicone has a myriad of other useful applications such as sealing camper windows etc.

Push-in clips P/N 52161-02020 for the front grille also fit nicely in the two small holes next to the cab mount. ;)

I think I'm going to cover / seal the holes with some Gorilla tape. Cheap and should do a good job.

I think there are 28? Plugs in the Toyota manual for completing a frame swap.

I ended up using some medium duty dark grey duck tape to cover the holes. It's 100% waterproof and works extremely well, because it forms a complete seal its better then the factory plugs. Much better than one might think. IMO, there is no reason for anyone to buy the plugs. The dark grey color blends in too.

Has anyone tried to ask for the 28 plug kit the dealer is supposed to use when performing the recall work?

Seeing how Toyota is handing the frame rust issues over the "YEARS" I'd expect that the Frame in included I the "Kit"

Looking to use Chassis Saver in clear on my new truck if/when I get it, on all components underneath (minus the obvious no-no's). Getting plugs if needed & plugging every hole except drain holes. How best to get it in the frame? Planning to get my body shop to do it. And Fluid Film every fall thereafter. Thoughts?

Don't waste your money on the dealer plugs. Use duck tape. Cheap, and works better.

I painted inside the boxed section of the frame. First I used a leaf blower to blow dirt, sand and crap out of the frame. Then I cut the rivets out of a standard aluminum crutch and took one long length of pipe from it. It had the perfect offset for the application. I attached a rag dipped in acetone, crawled under, and scrubbed inside the boxed section of frame. I then removed rag and attached a small 2-3" paint roller I found at the department store. I then proceeded to paint the shit out of the inside frame.

It worked very well and was low cost for me.

    EVERYBODY:
Grab a flashlight and get on your back on the ground under a cab mount. Shine that flashlight toward the frame rail. Notice a great big gaping hole exposing the inside of the frame to the cab mount? Notice that the cab mount is in just the right place to catch lots of salty spray off the trailing edge of your front wheel? Think its a coincidence that frames rust out worst on the opposite face of that part of the rail starting on the inside? No coincidence. Seal those up!!! (but not the water drains... you still need those)

Nice catch! Thanks. That hole is like 2.5" in diameter . I did not know it was there. It's totally obscured. I'm gonna see if my duck tape will seal it up. lol

How did you seal that hole up? It's pretty big and in an awkward spot. Any insight would be great!

Also, any harm in sealing up these three holes that the factory plugs don't cover? (One in the first pic, two in the second.)IMG_4074.jpg IMG_4073.jpg

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
Use aluminum tape from Home depot, not only cheap but aluminum will provide extra level of rust proofing.
Thats what I did. It did not help the rest of the frame but front of the frame was in good condition :)

Hmmm about $0.40 in duck tape and about 20 minutes to clean the frame and apply the tape. I monitor the tape and it's solid. No problems. I'll see if I can rustle up a pic.

Oh, wait, not sure which mod your asking about...

To paint the inside of the frame, I spent less than $10... I found the paint, and paint roller at wally world. :D

Seal them all up except for the holes on the bottom side of the frame.

Here, just took some pics of mine, and thanks for the reminder about the big 2.5" hole at the body mount perch, I forgot to do that one! :annoyed:
