Used 2016 Tacoma : WORST used car buy

My 2016 TRD OR 6MT was traded in at 3800 miles. There was no problems with it.

I checked the car fax and current owner has almost 17k miles on it. No dealer visits on carfax

But today 2016 Tacoma is as rated as the worst used Toyota to buy

What gives ?

Also if 2016 Tacoma's are the worst buy, will resale hurt as more 2016s get traded in at end of lease etc ?

Time to start buying up those 1st and 2nd gens!

 

You stay away from my 2nd Gen's! I'm gonna need another one some day when my frame rots away from the NE winters

Ive always wandered about new vehicles that were traded in with hardly any miles like maybe it was a lemon or they definately did not like it.

 

Can't agree more with the CR review. My 2016 Taco was dumped at 2000 miles.

This is my truck I just traded in for my 17 manual. The msrp on this truck was $36k and I paid 34k last march. It's just a standard trd off road without tech. I don't understand how they can be asking that much.

I don't think resale will be hit too much. People seem to be delusional about Tacomas. Just browse Craigslist for used ones and you'll see.

Also, no matter what issues are shown here, with glaring evidence, it's always "but bulletproof herp derp ford sucks chevy sucks lol who is chrysler"

And if enthusiasts don't care as much, the general population sure won't.

 

IMHO, it is because dealers are still banking on the Tacoma reputation from the previous gens.

Apologies to the White Knights, but the 3rd gen loses EVERY comparison test it is entered into and almost every reviewer universally hates the automatic trans.

The MT trucks are a rarer breed and owners seem much happier with them, but for Joe Consumer dealing with daily stop-and-go traffic for long periods of time, it is just not a feasible option.

 

I'll be sure to buy them all up, only to resell them for 35% more than what I paid for them once the news gets out

If CR says 2016 Tacoma is worst and on a "do not buy" list, it will get around. National media will pick it up. In the real world it matters.

Whether resale is hurt (likely) will be seen down the road. It is still too early to tell

Any used Taco is an awful buy. You can just about buy a new one for the price they ask for a used one.
