I remember the first of the twins had steering wheels installed wrong and the door seals leaked water constantly.

I recall someone doing an early review on the Canyon and it kept popping a Chevy Symbol on the display instead of GMC, not a good start.

that review could have been done in 2016, it has no bearing on the 2017 model since there are no dates shown or who authors the reviews

I agree. They worded the whole "we recommend skipping buying these year models entirely" rather strongly without breaking out which of the 29 permutation variants has the problem. I suspect it's the new V6 Eco-boost-Iverson whatever they call it. This is the newest designed engine that is appearing for the first time in Tacomas, if I understand this correctly at all (feel free to correct me).

To paint all 2016's with the "do not buy" brush is really wrong, erroneous AND misleading at best. In my opinion it really shows the uselessness of Consumer Reports. All they have to do is clarify specifically which Tacoma they are talking about.

If I was Toyota I'd take them to task on this.

    Mush Mouse,

Given your history on here I thought you had grown out your armchair warrior with insignificant genitalia attitude……obviously not.

    Good luck!

A lot of the bashers don't even own the truck. You can't definitely ignore the ones who don't own one. A lot of the bashing you see who own them are repeat bashers.

So far I'm super happy with my 2016. YMMV.

I don't think the Consumer Reports Article the OP put up had anything to do with resale, it was on Below Average Reliability if I read it correctly.

When I first joined TW it was because I was buying a third gen. I was excited when I first got mine (see post #601 here), I defended it for a while. Even got into a name calling match with @Tunngavik about it because he was bashing the Tacoma so much and I was awarded with a 3 day time out by the mods (my first and only) for personal attacks. As the months and miles stacked up, so did the service department paperwork and calls to corporate about my problematic 2016. Turns out ol' Tunngavik wasn't so wrong after all.
