I strongly suspect it was not the 50K miles on the oil that killed the engine - it was the lack of oil due to the driver(s) not keeping the crankcase up to level. My sis did the same to her Matrix - my bro and I enjoyed putting a new engine in it. @TacomaSport86 's engine will have no problem reaching 200K; he has documentary proof the oil is doing fine for his engine and driving habits. As long as oil levels are also monitored, it's a no-brainer he is not harming his engine. The recommended 5K oil changes are just that - recommended, as it is intended to cover a wide range of drivers, from idiots racing their cars to those that baby them.

My wife had a friend who believed that the oil did not need to be changed until that that little red light came on. She was right, when it finally did come on, the oil did need a change along with some other "minor" parts. It was a Porsche.

@Naumoff42 Dang, that is looking kinda bad for an engine with 35K. I would take these results to Toyota and insist they do their own oil analysis; this will provide some documentation in case something catastrophic happens after the warranty period ends.

On a different note, Amazon, right now, has Wix oil analysis kits for $13; they are usually $25. These are what I use and have 5 sitting in my garage. Price is likely to go up as soon as folks start looking at the web page and/or put them in their cart.

Qynla has 400k + miles on his Tacoma with 10k+ or more oil change intervals.

You have nothing on him. How about you talk when you cross 400k, cupcake.

Does that stuff usually go through the dealers first or am I better off going straight to corporate?

...honestly, I didn't pull the sample correctly so next oil change will be more accurate. I forgot until the oil was all drained into my catch pan and pulled the sample from there. :anonymous:

Why such a low oci? Kind of a worthless report unless you were having problems?

I had never sent in a sample and have only owned the truck for a year. I wanted a baseline.

The TBN indicates that you have a long way to go on the intervals. Thanks for sharing.

I recently decided to extend my OCI's so I sent in a sample on my first 8,000+ one to make sure 10,000 was safe. I'm pretty pleased with the results for a 200k mile engine...

    It's DLX son!
Second sample I've sent in since purchasing @ ~60K miles. 7,500 mi change interval on synthetic penz platinum. Will do 10k for my current OCI since all looks to be in order.

Time to bump a useful thread...

I thought this report might be interesting as it is an edge case. Change interval 3.5 years (thank you COVID-19) but only 7,600 miles. 2015 V6 on Mobil 1 Extended Performance. Truck didn't move from 2/2020 to 6/2021. Miles on this vehicle are almost entirely long highway and long off-road trips. It is stored between camping trips.
