Rear facing car seats are such a pain in a Tacoma. What are you replacing it with?

If I could get a camper shell that’d fix at least 2 of the 3 backseat passengers. Lol

So I was passenger on my trip back from Colorado and it got me thinking about my tacoma headlights. My stock headlights suck and I need new housings. I have been down the rabbit hole of Projector conversions and no one can give a long term review. Plus a lot of these aren't DOT approved.

So I was thinking about using some Jeep Head lights. I did a quick google search and someone has attempted this.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/jeep-headlight-retrofits-0_o.517510/

I think this TW member is onto something. I was thinking that I could take this idea a step further and do the following:

    - Buy some DOT approved Jeep LED headlights. Quadratec has several options that are DOT approved. This would take the guess work out of reflector and cuttoff designs that a lot of imported headlights dont take into account.
    https://www.quadratec.com/p/quadratec/premium-led-projector-beam-headlight-kit-jeep-wrangler-jl

    - Buy the LED mounting buckets, this would offer adjustment for the headlights.
    - Buy LED turn signals, again DOT approved,
    - Buy some sort of side markers to remain road legal. The tacoma side markers are at the very edge of the headlights. My driver side has been burned out for years.

After having these parts, the real fun would begin.
    - I would have to use my Xbox Kinect to 3d scan my factory headlight housing. The goal would be to scan and then design a new housing that can carry the 7" LED, side marker, and turn signal. I will probably spend several hours manipulating the point cloud data to get something useable. I would also want this new housing to contour the truck.

    - I would then 3d print a new housing. This would probably take several iterations of the housing design. I think I would probably raptor line the housing to make it UV stable and also provide some extra stiffness.

    - The True test, would be a proper adjustment (Tacoma factory manual)

This 'project' would be well over $1000 in just the LED headlights/ turnsignals/ side markers. If I fail, I can always re-coup the money by selling the lights to a jeep owner.

I have wanted to get a 3d printer for a while (a small scale industrial version) so the print area will be large enough to print the new housing.

That sounds like a lot of time and money! Why not this...? https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-ultimate-headlight-upgrade-h4-not-led-or-hid.398066/ I guess it's not technically DOT approved either.

    Yea,
saw that thread years ago. At this point it might be a pipe dream. If I have some free time over the next couple weeks I might scan my headlight housing. That would be the first place to start. I have a lot of leg work to get an actual model. Once I have that, things will fall into place.

I still need to get a printer. I havent made up my mind on which one to get. That might be a mid year purchase due to my work schedule. If I can complete this project by the end of the year that would be awesome.

Wait. An Xbox Kinect can 3D scan? I had no idea.

It does sound like a lot of work, but if you could pull it off, then damn!
