What would the insurance increase be with the V8 vs V6?

How much more does the V8 weigh?

My 2000 V10 Excursion (7500 lbs of beast and can tow a medium house with furniture, pets, and occupants) gets 14 MPG. My Tacoma gets about the same (ok, just a touch better at 16)... and likes to bottom out with a few bags of concrete and a 2x4.

    WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This here is stupid.

Agree with others in that 24 HP for two more cylinders and only an extra .7L doesn't seem worth it. That would depend on the price differential.

Honestly, the 4.0 is making more juice than my previous Ford 5.0 ...

but if a V8 was offered, I'd take it just for the sound.

    Yeah, I'm a sucker for a lopey V8.

    Not a 4.7......It would get a Old school 5.7 Chevrolet w/ Tremec 5 speed.

they don't make the 4.7 anymore. they replaced it with the 4.6 which would be a good choice for a v8. the 5.7 tho....:D

Here is my .02, a v8 would be cool but given the price tag it will likely come with, a smaller 6 cylinder turbo diesel similar to the mercedez that you would have found in a cherokee or sprinter (with a little more torque perhaps) would be great, but with new emmissions and having to use the DEF set up this is again making it expensive and less viable for consumers right now. With rising gas prices I still would have to give it to the S/C V6 for the extra power, I have a fair amount of experience with superchargers and I beileve it will give you the torque of the v8. If that amount of power from the supercharger isnt enough, throw on a bigger heat exchanger and a smaller pulley and it will be more then enough IMO. Now I havent been in a SC Tacoma but what I will say is 4.0L Taco vs V8 Canyon... the difference isnt big enough for me to want to make the switch. When i want more then a taco can offer you will see me move up to a 3/4ton diesel! The v8 will add alot more weight which isnt the best way to go for wheeling. look at what every manufacturer is starting to do, go to a smaller engine and use forced induction... that gives you better fuel ecconomy with out loosing a whole lot if anything for performance... Like I say, thats just my .02

I haven't read all the posts ... .and I am sure someone has already chimed in with this.

If I had the $$$ to toss around .... I'd get a plain-jane, base model with a V-8 ..... would love to see the look on people's faces when I blew them off the line.

It would never happen, but a regular cab 2WD base Taco with the V8 would be awesome. All that power hauling 3300 lb curb weight.

You know, you still don't need a v8 to make good power. Our 4.0 with proper mods can still make some great power.

Tacomas dont need extra power. They are more than capable the way they are now. The 4.6L would be the largest it would need to get. Tacoma's need to stay "compact" trucks. I don't want to be competing with F-150s and those other peices of shat. But I must say a 4.6L would sound....:jerkoff:

The 4.6 is only 310hp... with a supercharger and mods you can break the 400's

 That would be amazing...and you wouldn't have to hear that V6 noise out of the exhaust. Instead you'd get a nice rumble.
