I was just looking at this. Get the same horsepower, with just a little extra weight and same or better mileage (than v6). Why not? What's to lose?

wouldnt be worth the price difference, besides, how many mods would be out for the v8 in comparison to the tried and true v6?

tried and true? the 1gr? vs the 3ur? Not a huge difference in age. If you want tried and true... well technology, mpg laws and emissions laws kind of keep us from getting there now-a-days. Always having to update to a new series or model.

If I understand correctly, the Tacoma's niche is in the lower-powered segment of the market, as 90% of people are not going to be doing much hauling, towing, etc. Toyota already has the Tundra, so that may result in a bit of cannibalism in the product line.

Maybe I have no idea what the "year mod" is.

YUP.. tundra is barely larger (though it looks huge, its expensive huge not useful huge check the wheel base measurements) They killed the t100 to allow for the tundra, then they kill the tacoma in favor of a tacoma badged t100.. kind of odd.

I'm going to say no, not that I think it wouldn't be cool, it definately would. If I want to feed a V8 though I'l just get the fullsize truck to go with it. Or have kept my Bronco.

Yea toyota's business model has kind of gone down the tubes in the past couple of years. I still dont see why they can't develop a 4cyl diesel that meets US emissions requirements. Any mid-sized truck with that engine in the US would steal the whole market.

I can honestly say that I would paid the extra for a V8. I almost bought the GMC canyon with the 5.3 V8. 300 HP in that small truck......FUN. I have bought 8 different vehicle's from my local chevy dealer and they let me bring home the canyon for the weekend. I will honestly say that the only reason that I bought the Tacoma was I liked the style, interior layout and dependability of the truck better. Part of my plan is to give my son this truck in 5 more yrs when he turns 16 and wanted to make sure that he will have something that he can put 100,000 miles or more on it once it becomes his. I am glad I bought the Tacoma now and feel that I made a better choice.

Would I have bought a V8 in this truck if it was an option.....Hell yea I would have :).

Perhaps having driven one your experience is different, but from anything I have seen the Colorado/Canyon really isn't even that impressive with the 5.3 and seem slower than the Tacoma and I don't think they're even rated to tow anymore. Although it's still a needed motor compared to the slug of a motor the I5 is.

Has anyone driven a 2011 Tundra with the 4.6 yet? Weren't they rated at 20 hwy. I'd think in the lighter Taco that would be sweet.
