What's the towing capacity between the V8 and the V6 4Runner?

No, I wouldnt opt for a V8. If I needed more power for towing/hauling than what the 4.0L has, Id go for a Tundra.
I could the sense in a V8 maybe in the X-Runner, because its a sporttruck.
In the case of the 4Runner, its considerably heavier than a Tacoma, so it almost needs a V8, especially if you want to do any kind of serious towing.

IMO, the hp or tq difference isn't worth it, the V6 does the job nicely. If I wanted a V8 then I would have sprung for the Tundra, or better yet, a GT 'Stang.

Is the v-6 underpowered or something? I guess it's just a desire for more power. I would rather move up to a Tundra if I needed a V-8. Funny how now that gas prices are going down many calls are being made for a v-8, but when prices are through the roof, everyone wants to dump their trucks.

Yup in my view the look of the Tacoma deserves that dual harmonic growl of a V8 to complete the picture. That is the ONLY thing I don't like about my truck-it sounds like a giant hoover. But then again-have you guys heard those V-10s? They sound like a wimpy V6!! Like I said there's nothing like the sound of a V8-oh and you do well with the extra torque-especially with a truck.

As much as I like the V6 very nice power, A 7000 horse trailer starts to put the truck to a test, She does it like a champ, A V8 would be nice for towing but as fast as the truck are with the V6 I cant imagine with a V8:eek:, But I would like to find out:D

I would love the v8... As i also think it would get better milage as long as it is not driven heavy footed all the time.

The idea of having that much power in a truck this small makes my mouth water. On the other hand, IMO I think that would be way to much weight in the front end.

I think if Toyota wanted a V8 tacoma the 4.7L would be the obvious choice. But I don't think the current gen Tacoma will ever get a V8. Maybe the next gen change in a few years. And we all know it will be damn expensive. It would be nice im sure. But I would never have a need for it myself. If you really want V8 power get a full size Tundra or F150.

The 2.7 allows me to pull my boat on the weekends without any problem and haul lots of stuff in the bed while getting 23 mpg at 80 mph on my daily 47 mile drive to work.

    Interesting the towing capacity difference.

What's the GVWR between the two?

Another concern - the 'smaller' GVWR is harder to handle when towing bigger loads. A 4.7L tacoma would be a handful with larger loads in certain situations unless you got special load leveling hitch to assist etc.

I had a 4.7L Grand Cherokee that we towed 6500lbs with (tow rating 6500lbs) and it was a *handful* to drive in certain situations with a regular hitch setup. Going downhill for 5miles straight in the Tenessee mountains was a white knuckle ride. Versus.... the 5.7L Dodge Ram. Same load, same roads....and it was like driving the truck with no load at all.

With that being said (and the experience I've had) - I'd much rather have a fullsize truck.
A fullsize truck will have bigger axles, heavier duty transmission, better cooling system, etc. Overall - the mechanicals on a fullsize can handle the towing. To me - a 4.7L tacoma would only be worth buying if you planned on racing with it.

I got tired of all this bla bla talk about V8's so I just went and did it. The only problem was the hood clearance. Did not want to cut a hole so I took the V8 back out. :D

V6 has plenty of power for the size of the truck. If I wanted more, I'd probably go supercharger. Much more cooler than a V8. If I needed a truck for more than what it's capable of then I would have gotten the Tundra. I think the 2.7 liter 4 Banger in the 2007 Tacoma I had was sufficient for what I need a truck for.
