I would. I had the 4.7L V8 in my 03 4Runner the first year it was offered, it was a beast. It def might be a little much for this size pickup but who doesnt love V8 power.

My 09 dbl cab 4x4 does not burn all the gas I want it to. A v8 would be just the trick. No matter what I do it only burns a gallon in 16 miles.

I dont think I would. For what I use my truck for theres no way a v8 would give me anymore of an advantage. It would simply just cost more in gas. Pulls the camper,4wheeler and boat just fine.

GM now offers a 5.3L V8 in the Canyon and Colorado! Never thought we would see that day??? So who really knows. It could happen. Expect to pay at least $6000 more for a V8.

Screw the 4.7. Gimme the 5.7 Tundra engine in the Taco... now you got a truck. As nice as the Tundra's are, gimme a taco any day of the week over one. I like it to be a little smaller, the looks are way better imo (I still think the current tundras are fairly ugly). That way.... mmmm 5.7L taco...

Or as stated earlier, the diesel option available pretty much everywhere else. That'd be even better.

Nope, didn't want a V8. If I did I would have bought the Tundra.

When i had my 4runner, in the owners manual, if you change the hitch, you can tow 6500 with the v6.

I liked my v8 4runner. I would of kept it if it was not for the damn sunroof. It broke 4 times in 1 year.

maxing out a v6 sounds much more appealing than trying to compensate with a v8

    Rain Visors,
I'd stick with the 6. I have owned everything you can think of. The power isn't the towing issue it's the truck and it's gvwr. You add more weight with the bigger motor. Less max weight. Iif you want to tow big often get a bigger truck. Haha I do miss the sound of a 350 with flowmasters, but. What can ya do

Like I have posted on the last 900 V8 taco threads, I would take a small turbo diesel over a V8 any day

I own a 2007 4Runner V8 Sport and am looking at buying a 2009 Tacoma AC TRD Off Road V6 with auto.

I also tow on occasion a 2000 lb 19ft racing dinghy, trailer included.

While the V6 Tacoma I've driven in, when towing the boat and trailer, the V6 does fine. However, you still have to downshift when traveling through the Colorado passes.

With the V8, there is absolutely zero comparison to the V6... as the V8 simply eats up the passes with ease and no strain at all on the engine, tranny or driveline components.

Bottom line for me is that with the V6 Tacoma, it'll do the job. With the V8, you don't even know there is additional weight on the rear. ;)

I have a 4.0L, Supercharged AND pull the passes here in Colorado. Don't sell the V6 short until you drive one with a SC. You'll swear you're driving a V8 (without the "growl" of course)

I recently drove a Ford Explorer Sport-Trac (simular in size to a double cab Tacoma Short Box) with the 4.6L V8 and it was nice to have that smooth V8 power to move you when you want it. It sucked the gas like it was dieing of thirst though! But I think now if I could afford it, I would be tempted to get a 4.7L V8 Tacoma!
