How much did the SC cost you with kit, parts and labor?

Just curious... how much did your MPG drop after you installed the SC when you're putting the pedal to the metal, especially going up the passes? I average 19mpg and get upwards of 20+ on the highway, w/o towing of course. Take away 2mpg for towing the light boat and trailer and that's not too bad for a V8.

The supercharged engine is a lot louder than the low rumble of the V8.

BTW, I didn't 'sell the V6 short'. It just doesn't pull and have the torque of the V8, has more engine noise and frankly is not as smooth.

I'm not dissing the V6 as I'm looking at buying one myself.

My truck's still under warrantee so I had the dealer (Go Toyota) do the install (Not the cheapest way for sure). Parts & labor for the SC +TRD CAI = $6K. Some of that labor was because of the ARB bumper and All Pro armor that had to be R&Red for the install.

If you read my signature lines you'll see my truck is lifted and heavy so after all the mods, and before the SC I was getting 15mpg mostly commuting with very little freeway. Now with the SC I average 15 - 15 1/2. When I have an impatient week and find myself heavy on the throttle it drops to around 13. Pulling the boat to Lake Powell it drops to about 10 but I tend to run the speed limit (75) all the way.

As to the torque, the SCed 4.0L makes over 300 ft. lbs. from 2300 rpm on. Not sure, but I think that may be more than the 5.7L V8 makes.

I appreciate you sharing the beta and experience and I did take notice of your Tacoma's excellent build-out.

I've run both turbos and superchargers in various turbo diesels (trucks, Mercedes, etc) and sports cars and I do enjoy the added power, especially of the SC.

    The specs for the 2007 4.7 V8 : 260 HP SAE @ 5,400 rpm; 306 ft lb

I'm in the truck business and I've found that Toyotas are by far, the most reliable of the small pickups and SUV's I've ever driven. I've owned a bunch of Toyota 4 x 4 pickups over the years and this 4Runner V8 is one smooth vehicle.

Good luck and enjoy your SC. ;)

Yes I would, even though I got the 2.7 if I coulda afford to travel over 300 km/s everyday in a v8 I would!

After Driving my GF's 4.7L V8 Grand Cherokee, I like the low end power and constant power band, but compared to my V6 it doesn't have the high end ass in seat when you step on it pedal to metal.
I don't know if its full time 4WD is robbing some power or not.

If this is the case, then give the option for small v8 or better yet a DIESEL

    No way.
Just sold my 02 Ford F150 Supercrew. 5.4 had enough horsepower but I am driving a Taco today for one very major reason. Gas Mileage/fuel prices. Has about the same giddy up and go as my bigger truck, but way more economical. Typical fuel mileage around town was 12.5 for the Ford and up to about 17 highway.
Taco is consistently getting 17.5 around town and the only highway trip I took between Seattle and Portland I got about 19 mpg.
Give me a V-8 and I just have to go back to throttle management and cringing at the pump.

If you "Need" V-8 power, then you "Need" a vehicle to handle it ( not just with your "Right foot";) ).....Tundra,Land Cruiser or Lexus 570....

This whole thread started with 4-Runner having V-8's...Have you checked out the 2010's ???? No V-8 in the picture,Why???;) Torque and intelligence make this a V-6 POWA'd 4x4 to be answered to in "Factory" form.....Just imagine what the "Hard Core" guru's are "dreaming up"...:cool:

Now a diesel POWA plant will bring USA Toyota into a stronger postion IF done right....Their Hino truck line is quickly becoming a "Staple" to the Class 4-7 market.now put that "diesel option" in a Tundra and up the "Stakes" with a 3/4-1 ton option..:eek:;)..

Good things come to those who wait and if it has that Toyota logo on it ,we can usually go to the "Bank" it will last....

Sure would make having an exhaust system sound better if anything.

You have to look at the whole torque curve not just the peak. The V8 will accelerate easier and smoother than the V6 all day long. The V8's peak torque is acheived at 3,400 rpms and the V6 was well over 4,000. Thats a big difference in drivablity. I don't normally rev to 4,000 rpms. I will hit 3,400 often.

for the 2010 4runner toyota dropped the v8. but they also reengineered the 4.0 so it now produces 270 hp and 278 ft lb of torque.

5.7 is overkill in the taco! Heck even my wife's 4.7 out of her sequoia, would be fun, but still a little overkill!

Nah, I wouldn't select the V8. I love the engine in my Tacoma. It's a great balance of weight, torque, and HP. And it get's decent mileage.

If I could have purchased a supercharged factory Tacoma, I would have given that great consideration. Hell, I'm still trying to find a way to justify purchasing the TRD supercharger.

I'd get it. My next truck will likely be a 4x4, and I'd love a V8 engine to go with it.

x2 I'd get it just for the rumble. If the v6 had that deep throaty exhaust rasp I'd be ok with v6. Dakotas and Colorados can get a v8 why not Tacoma?
