I live in Wyoming and have no trouble starting my one ton diesel during the winter. I would still buy the 6 cylinder even if there was a v8 option. The 6 cylinder has plenty to tow anything that the frame of the Taco is capable of.

I would not buy the V8. For me it is unnecessary and would only increase the cost of maintaining the vehicle.

If I had the option I would get the V8. Not that I would tow any more weight than I already do but it would make towing what I do easier. I think the 4.0 is a great motor but having a more power would always be nice, and I doubt the V8 would change the MPG all that much. A full size truck is to big for what I want and need. I dont need to tow 10k or have 2k in the bed. I need to tow my 3k lb boat to the lake and thats about all. Therefore a V8 in a Tacoma would be perfect!

I own a '10 SR5 4X4 and owned a '08 PreRunner. They will tow a house, problem is, how will you stop? Always thought the brakes not to be sufficient, would need a brake upgrade for more power.
    Just my .02 cents.

I test drove the V8 and V6 4Runner and had a hard time telling the dif. I dont think it would be worth the extra weight and gas using it on a Tacoma.

I'd trade mine in a second for a supercharged 5.7 if it was available.

How'bout a nice diesel??? I think this truck would be awesome (like its not already), but a little nicer with a V-6 diesel option. Not a 4 cylinder diesel, but a good high torque good towing V-6 turbo diesel. That I would trade mine in for.

A V8 would destroy the fuel economy of the tacoma. After all its a 3700lb vehicle, not a 5700lb'er like the Tundra. The 4.0L has plenty of power. This is an overhead cam motor, much efficient better than my old Ford 302. If you want more getup then do a gear swap, especially if you have oversize tires.

Ditto on whippersnapper. If you want more towing capability the engine is not the limiting factor. Hint: Taco rear drum brakes and most have a short wheelbase.

I'd take a small eight right now. Already have the fuel efficiency of one, may as well have the extra power and the sound, rather than this sewing machine noise...

The new V8 is a 4.6 & makes more power than the old 4.7 but in my 4Runner all wheel drive its a RACE Truck with a cold air int take & Borla....LOL

NO. Our reason for getting the Tacoma in the first place was the 4 cylinder engine and the better mileage we hoped to get. Even if only a few mpg's better.

We like the usefulness of a truck, the height, etc. but 2 summers ago we were paying nearly $5/gallon for gas. If you think those days are over, think again.

If you want a V8 you have lots of choices out there. If it were me, I would have liked a 4 cylinder truck the size of the 1st gens...but brand new.

the twin turbo eco boost engines ford has are looking promising... Maybe if toyota put a similar setup in the tacoma.

With my gas mileage being around 14mpg, I seriously doubt it. I would like to see a diesel though.

I probably would have done it, if it would have been an option.Since it wasnt an option, I got the 4.0L with a (TRD) CAI, Superchager, & Exhaust at purchase. Then I dropped some shorty headers in there. I couldnt be happier with the amount of power underfoot, and wouldnt trade my setup for a v8 if you paid me.

Screw fuel economy, I would kill for a bigger engine in my truck. And if Toyota would just make a V8 Tacoma, it would save me the time and trouble of figuring out how to cram a V8 engine in my Taco that isn't made for it...and then trying to bullshit my way past IM....
