There are many other things to worry about in a 3rd gen but a V8 future engine swap sounds interesting. Do we anybody who has done this yet?

I've been looking to LS swap my truck. My problem is maintaining all factory electronics. I can get a GM engine and trans to work standalone with no problem

I can't see any logic behind a V8 in ANY generation Tacoma but I would like to see a 1GD-FTV 2.8L diesel in the Taco Gen 3, it's available in the 2016 HiLux, plenty of power (torque) to weight along with increased mpg.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Tacoma and with that being said it has enough power, but how badass would a V8 Tacoma be? Just for gripes sake

Wouldn't using a 4.7 from a Tundra make it a LOT easier? If you used one from a similar year truck wouldn't a lot of the wiring be the same?

They did it in 4th gen(?) 4Runners with the same basic drivetrain used in 2nd gen Tacoma's, right?

How would the wiring be the same in a completely different platform?

Considering your power to weight ratio goes to shit with a heavy V8 not to mention all the front suspension and frame mods that would have to be done to accommodate that added weight. Then the embarrassment when like mentioned above a V6 turbo blows your doors off. Same reasoning applies to big block vs small block V8's, unless you're hauling a 5th wheel where a diesel is superior to ANY gas engine bigger is never better, too much weight to overcome. Besides that GM makes a horrible engine IMHO, Go Ford! YMMV

An aluminum LS weighs around 500lb. The 3.5 weighs around 350. No more weight difference than adding a steel bumper like so many people do

Presumably because they are from the same manufacturer, as opposed to the LS swap mentioned earlier in the thread.

One of the basic premise's of modern manufacturing is using common components in multiple platforms. GM has for years been a master of this. When Toyota used the 4.7 in the earlier T4R's you don't think they used a completely different harness and set of components do you?

I figured the connections to things like the ECM, fuel injectors, various sensors and such would be similar if not the same. If nothing else it would seemingly be much easier to get inputs for the gauges and such that the stock Toyota dash pieces would recognize.
