Valve stems

This may be a stupid question but im about to order some new tires and I'm wondering if i need new valve stems with them? Discounttire automatically puts 4 new ones in your cart but do i really need them, my truck is only 9000 miles old. Can i just use the ones from my old tires?

I think most places suggest changing them anytime you get new tires. Different pressures and what not.

Also depends on if the TPMS stems will fit in your new rims....

Do not skimp. I always replace valve stems when I replace tires.

I bought a used Civic and the previous owner figured he'd save a couple bucks and left the valve stems when replacing the tires. I was stuck with a flat on a perfectly good tire because the base of the stem dryrotted. It was fine and held air when sitting and parked for weeks on end, but at highway speeds the spinning put enough force on the valvestem to shift it and the tire would go flat in 5 miles.

Just spend the $10. It's cheap insurance.

Not if you have the TPMS, which I think all '09s do. These have a different 'stem' system than normal. They may want to put new seal kit, but sometimes even that isn't truely needed.

if ur just doing new tires on the stock rims, then u dont need the stems b/c u have the TPMS. now if ur changing rims as well, then u need to see if the TPMS will fit the new rims. if hey wont, then u'll need stems
