Thanks man. I saw the thread with the ITR ur building, pretty sick. My next project will prob be building a boosted ek type r replica but need some deep pockets and still saving for more Taco parts. It never ends lol

The conversion is pretty simple, take a look at the rock solid toys swap.

 

So do you ever wish you had just gone with a 4x4 from the start?
I bet you've worked so hard on it by now that you can't picture it any other way!

 

LOL that thread went no where, all I have posted is the cosmetic changes and when it got to serious changes I was too stressed to post up. I'll update it soon, boosted EK sounds sick but yeah deep pockets for both builds. I'll look into it, thanks

 

I do but it was kinda out of my price range back then. I bought it in the states for a damn good deal during the recession. In Canada there still at least 22k for used in half decent condition. Actually kinda wish I got a double cab short box from the start.

I did try to sell this one to buy a 4x4 but with some of the offers I got plus the taxes I could have been paying over 10k for a stock 4x4. It's funny because we actually don't get much snow in Vancouver but people still insist on having 4x4's. I wouldn't need one nor would I convert if I wasn't offroading.

So building this truck to 4x4 got me all the extras I have on it for under what it prob would have cost for a new stock.

 

I guess the biggest thing I take from that is the cost. You got to build your truck the way you wanted it for less(or equal) cost of a stock 4wd.

You just had to put a lot of elbow grease into it!

 

would this be easier to do with a stock t case?

 

Exactly tc3, I already had some mods into it and the cost for another was more then the work.

It easier with a FJ Tcase cut a hole and bolt it up. You need a whole new ecu and need to do some major wiring for a Tacoma tcase so it's not worth it and a fj case is way better. I haven't seem anybody do it yet with a taco case.

Ya so the difference between the Prerunner (a750e) and 4x4 (a750f) if the rear housing and inner shaft. The adapter bolts to the tranny (where the rear housing was) and allows the 4x4 rear housing to be bolted up to it. It also fixes the fact the e shaft is longer. So then a tcase can be bolted up. The adapter will move everything back i think 3" so This means you'd have to get your front shaft lengthened now (~$300) the rear shaft has to be cut down anyways so doesn't matter. Plus side is I'm pretty sure you can use the Prerunner crossmember and won't have to fab a new one.

Hard part with that is you have to find a rear housing from a 4x4 tranny, most only come with the whole tranny.

DJ do you have the sticks or a switch to engage 4wd? I'm looking more into this now, any chance I can pickup a wrecked tacoma and start swapping?

 

Stick fj cruiser tcase. I haven't seen anybody wire up the 4wd ecu, it would be a nightmare to wire up and use a Tacoma case. I don't think it would be worth it, fj tcase is way better and would be way easier, cut a hole in the floor and stick it in. Take a look at the rock solid toy swap, Wyatt knows best of anybody around and I followed what he did.

Best thing to do would be to find a taco at a wrecker to get the ifs parts and tranny. Most of the seals and bolts you'll have to order from Toyota.

I still don't have everything buttoned up with the tcase and twins ticks, I am going to relocate them to the front right cup holder when I have some time off around Christmas.

 

Did the intake relocate last weekend, don't have fender well covers anymore so it was necessary. Drilled a hole in the fender where the radio antenna was and sealed a 3" tube onto it and into the stock intake pipe. I used heavy epoxy to adhere the tube then sealed it with a rubber compound sealer











Sofar it works really well, don't hear much noise from it but prob cause my muffler is so loud. Scanguage shows the intake temp as normal and no visable difference in acceleration or driving rpms. Cheap, easy way to do a snorkel. Was under $50 for all parts and materials.

nice build, im thinkin about doin the conversion to my PreRunner, since ive already sank like 3-4K into it so far. Someone on another thread found this adapater for the transmission, and was wondering what you thought about it, it would eliminate the need for the A750F 4x4 Transmission

Interesting, I already have the front diff, front driveshaft, FJ transfer case, ADD wiring and modified cross member. That would save me quite a bit not having to buy the A750F tranny. I'll run this by Wyatt to get his impression.
