i have state farm. but in my experience, state farm as a standalone is not the least expensive. for example, state farm doesn't offer a discount for having a car alarm. but if you have multiple coverage; e.g., home and auto and more, state farm is competative. so is geico actually. personally, i'd avoid brokers like progressive, which is basically like lending tree. why did you bill go up?

I am with state farm and have been since I got my learners permit. My wife had I think Farmers when we met and they were at least 1/3 more than I was paying. Have you called talked to your insurance agent and gone over your plicy with them? Sometimes there are additional discounts they "somehow" missed origianlly. If not it never hurts to show around a bit. I have both cars, two motorcycles and our house insured, that helps as well as my wife and I both over 30 years old now with clean driving records.

Vehicle safety discount changed? Did you have anything like an introductory rate, so did you recently sign with them in like the last 6 months to a year? I would be calling my agent for a little face to face time and go over the policy to explain the changes.

I just noticed you are 19 yearls old, that can play into it sometimes if they change how they rate younger drivers. Still crappy that they did not include a difinitive reasoning for the rate chages. Good luck to you!! :)

I have Metlife through work. I think I pay around $450 every 6 months for full coverage. I had Gieco & was paying $700 every 6 months.

When an insurance company raises my rates I dump them & move to a new company. A secret about insurance companies(I worked for one). They offer very low rates to new customers. But as you stay with them, they gradually raise your rates. They know that most people will just pay it & assume it is because everything else goes up. If you are constantly checking rates & switching every year or two, there is the possibility to save some big money.:D

I've got USAA. Switched to them 8 or 9 years ago. My premium dropped almost in half from what I was paying to Geico. Geico was cheaper than State Farm - which I got when I got back from England. Don't remember what I had over there.... Every year or so, they call and go over what I have versus what I need and adjust accordingly.
