Not sure if your 1st gen has a cabin air filter, if it does replace it. But do turn off your recirculate button(or Max a/c) before you shut off the engine and send a blast of fresh air through the system, that moldly/mildew smell will lessen. If that does not help, get a can of nicely scented LYSOL that says it kills germs. Turn on the system on recirculate with blower on 3 or 4 and spray and close the door for several minutes with doors and windows closed. Would recommend that you not be in vehicle while doing this and don't spare the LYSOL. Do this several times over several days and you will breath better. I am very allergic to mold/mildew and this really does help.

Sorry for the long winded post. Hey Hey it is my 100th post:bananadance:

some of this, a little of that
same problem here as well if i get home and turn off the truck before turning off the a/c. The best solution is just to turn off the a/c and let the blower run for a few seconds prior to turning the truck off.

cabin air filter is located behind the glovebox. remove the glovebox door to replace it.

There are no cabin filters in the 1st gens. Get something called Frigi-Fresh and spray that in the intake and follow the advice of the guys up above too.

Its mold & mildew in your system. I had the same problem. The dealer does a cleaning that will take care of it. They spray a chemical through your a/c system. I had this done over a year ago & I think it was $40. My vehicle is 3 yrs old & I have only needed to have this done once so far.
