I've been reading this forum for awhile and have seen many discussions about MPG. I need to ask if anyone has the same experience as me. I consistently get 25-26mpg, and this seems very high.

Here are my specs, let me know if I'm missing any info.
    2006
    Tacoma
    Pre-Runner
    Access Cab
    V6
    Automatic
    Mostly highway
Speeds 60-70 (try to keep RPM around 1800 or so)
    Like to coast a lot
    Easy acceleration
    Spark plugs replaced at 36k
    Current miles 50k
Air filter changed every 15k or so
    Southern California
    87 Octane
    Stock everything
    Oil change every 5k

So what do you think? Am I an anomaly? I have done 80-85 on a tank and it drops down to 22-23.

I'm guessing you have the 4 cylinder. It's not uncommon with the proper driving conditions and techniques. :)

Unless it was mislabeled, it should be a V6!

    I fill up.
    Note the mileage.
    Drive around for a bit.
    Fill up again.
    Note the mileage.
Subtract the new mileage from the old mileage and divide by the number of gallons I just pumped to fill it up.

Am I missing something? I don't go to the same pump or gas station each time....

    Latest fill up:

    Previous mileage: 48421
    New Mileage: 48830

    48830-48421=409 miles driven

409/15.885 gallons to fill it back up =

    25.747560591753226314132829713566mpg

What I can't understand. I still had about an eighth of a tank left according to the gauge, but only put 16 gallons into a 21 gallon tank. What the hell is going on???

At this rate I could get 540 miles on a tank. That can't be right???

Big thing is speed, acceleration, driving conditions and proper maintenance.

Good for you. I just bought smaller tires so it seems like I'm getting more MPG. Really I'm just lying to myself, but I'm telling myself what I want to hear so I'm comforted by that.

Yeah I went in to look at the 4 bangers and after doing some research I found that the 6 wasn't much worse... glad I got the 6 now.
