There is more than one 91 Octane tune for a stock truck? I saw different tunes for people who have made exhaust modifications like removing catalytic converters, but I have no intention in that direction.

87 octane with octane learning sounds like a good option. I am sometimes in remote areas where premium gas is not obtainable.

Yes there is the 91 base tune and the SFOB tune (performance) You would get the best benefit running a 91 version of the tune regardless. If you have to use regular gas for some reason your truck may run a little funny for a short while until the "octane learning" feature of the tune makes the correction.

I'm partial to SFOB Reg with premium fuel in tank. You will hear a wide variety of recommendations. Which is why we generally recommend for people to try various tunes out for themselves and decide from there

Hey guys. I returned my dongle so I can't launch PCMFlashUtility anymore. Selecting P5Flash Utility doesn't do anything. How can I identify my ECU ID?

Make sure you turn off your anti-virus and/or add exception to ovtune's folder. P5f probably got quarantined.

This worked much cleaner than the prior settings - fewer to change. I set base duty to 91.5 and that got me right at 14.1v (measured at battery), which is where I wanted to be as Northstar indicates it's sufficient for the battery to meet engineering specs. I don't run additional loads and just looking for battery longevity.

This may have been asked but I can't find it anywhere...Can we edit the tunes already created? I.e 1.05. It's a PF5 file under tunes but VFtuner opens with VFT files types. If possible how do I get it in VFtuner to edit? I bought the tune pack...want to add the alternator adjustment to the 1.05 tune in the end...

Not yet, just the stock tunes provided. You'll need to wait for the tune packs.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know why there are two rpm limiter settings? Is the second one the fuel cutoff?

I've been doing more reading into battery charging profiles....
I wonder how possible it would be to implement a 3 step charging cycle, something like Odyssey recommends.

    upload_2020-6-9_11-1-51.jpg

Edit: After reading through the technical manual Odyssey provides, charging over 13.6v for long periods can damage the batteries.

I'm going to step back my charging voltage to 13.6-7 and use my trickle charger to top it off for now.

I'll likely be doing some cheapo solar solution to get around this unless VF can do some sort of cool stepping with the charging system.

    Anyone else have updates?

That is for home charging specs. Even on big road trips, you are quite unlikely to have a single 8hr cycle, let alone any time for a float region. Realistically, at some point the battery is going to go from charge to drain when the motor goes to idle or a heavy load is requested. That charge current is also very specific to get that profile.

Now for a solar setup, that could work, but that would not have anything to do with the tune.

Just did a quick calc. A full tank of fuel will only last about 7hrs max. That's some iron butt, right there. :D

    Good info sir!

My batteries usually sit around 90-95%.. doing a 3 hour road trip @ 14.7v, i feel like, could, in some cases, possibly overcharge the batteries. I don't know that. With the Taco outputting the 13.6-13.7v it needs at float, the solar could always make up for the difference i would presume. I wonder what the affect of the alternator charging AND the solar charging would be on the battery... oh boy, this is a rabbit hole.

I know it's not tune specific, but since there has been so much convo about the alternator settings, i just wanted to provide some useful analysis from my findings and hope others, like yourself, chime in :)

    You're welcome.

It would be interesting to know the charge voltage when the battery is topped up at that 3hr mark. Steady state stuff. Given the ECU controls, it is probably at a trickle rate, though not as smart as that home float setting.

    :D

I would have zero worries at 14.7 for an AGM. That is where my bike lives and has been happy for years. Replaced the 10Ah battery twice in 12yrs with plenty of abuse from turning over a cold 90deg twin.

At home, I only let it charge for 4hrs/day. No sense in simmering it 24/7.

Any reason to trickle charge it if i can put 14.7 volts at it?

Trickle at home and the Taco is a DD? Nope, IMVHO.

Although, any modern vehicle that is sitting for two or more weeks regularly, then I would think about trickling.
