Transmission braking does reduce wear on the brakes but increases the wear on the transmission. Brake pads are a lot cheaper than transmission repairs.

Everyone says this (same with clutches) but they seem to far outlast how long anyone has their truck..

Yes it does but I'm getting trans braking to work better by rev matching the downshifts. Keeps it from jolting the rpms up with each drop, 4 out of 5 shift points if you were to coast through them are nearly unnoticeable with the tune. The only changes you feel are the truck slowing down gradually then receiving a small section of increased decel before mellowing out again.

Coupling that with normal braking has made the truck even without add ons feel like you can stop it with minimal brake pedal as opposed to needing to push it to the floor

I never trust Toyota when it comes to transmission service intervals. Its a sack of horseshit to me.

My truck used to shudder and bounce when the transmission tried to shift up 3 to 4 around 24-28mph with light throttle. The dealership wanted to change the leaf springs for $4k before looking into the transmission. All this prior to tuning the thing, was going to tune around the issue so it never bothered me again lol.

Truck had 88k on it... Yet the service manual says that you need to "check" the fluid level and top off if needed essentially forever with normal driving. But towing and off roading trucks would mandatory get a fluid exchange at 60k, 120k, 180k and so on...

$140 fluid exchange at valvoline and 20min later, it ran perfectly again.

If you change the fluid in the transmission once before you get rid of the truck it'll be better than before...

Yup. People should definitely be changing fluid (at least a drain and fill). I’ve seen it solve tons of issues but for some reason people think it won’t help or it’s too hard..

my 2016 was over a half quart low from the factory..

At 88k mine was definitely not shiny red colored... It was slightly darker than new but it definitely played a role in the trans not shifting properly

Man now I gotta get off my ass and change that. I hesitated because I kinda wanna do the flush along with it but don't wanna spend that much on fluid. Just have enough to drain and replace. Is it about as easy as the diffs?

Full flush takes forever to do yourself. Drain and fill is easy like the diffs.

It costs 130 for the 11qts of fluid from autozone and then the pain in your ass to do it yourself.

Find you a valvoline instant oil change place, call and make sure they can do a transmission fluid exchange (they all should be able to).

They'll hook it to the pump and in 20-30min pull out all 11 qts and replace it. Costs 140-160 depending on the area...

It was worth it to me

Don’t bother with a full flush. Just do a drain and fill.

you just drain it. Fill it. Get to temp check mode. Then open overflow to a trickle.

Already got the ATF for a replacement. Overcoming my nervousness, that's another thing. But I was nervous about swapping the diffs and it doesn't seem I've fucked that up. No explosions. Yet.

Another late night (early morning) update.

Once again I completed an ECU conversion of Valley Runner at 5:30am haha. The VA doesn't pay me for insomnia for nothing.

As of now Valley Runner 2.0.2 is available 100% tested on 2016-2017 AT 04B04.

It is also conditionally available for the following ECU IDs:

    2018 AT - 04A61
    2019 AT - 04B33

Once testers have run this tune long enough without issues, these IDs will move to 100% available. As of now they are only available with the caution that updates and bugs may occur.

Next I am moving to convert 2020 AT followed by 2020 MT

You're not wrong. I do feel strongly about knowing what I'm flashing to my truck. We paid good money for these things. I was just a little butt hurt I guess from others making $ off my time and efforts. It pisses me off being exploited. I've shared DOZENS of unlocked tunes. I'm fairly certain I started the trend. Others first said to me, why do all the work so people can just mooch off what you're doing? I did it because I wanted to share my experience with others in hopes they'd do the same, and that's exactly what happened. I didn't care, until people starting throwing the root of all evil into the equation. F*ck it I guess, if someone wants to be an @$$hole they will, whether my sh*t is locked or not.

You were, indeed, the pioneer. Most here recognize that, and if the world were fair, Mat would have been paying you for the interest and utility you brought to his fantastic product.

Some people are jerks, and will exploit your skill and generosity of spirit. Not much you can do about it.

On the behalf of myself and MANY others here, thank you for your many contributions to the TacomaWorld community.
