Did you guys go through the list I provided ?
It takes about an hour for the general public to go through those steps .
If the list is too much for you , run your truck by a reputable transmission shop for a free road test .
Those guys deal with vibrations every day and truly are masters of the drive line . .
The nice thing about a " FREE " road test with a certified tech , they generally have a dam good idea what your vibration is just by test driving the truck .
With this said , what will a certified tech check during the " FREE " test drive ?
Pretty much everything on the list I provided in post # 28

I can totally relate. I was always a Toyota fan - and still am. I still totally believe in Toyota reliability and resale. Everything these days - Just isn't made like it used to be. I took a huge chance in switching to Canyon (the frame swap might have been 25% in the decision process to switch). It's an unknown what kind of history I'll have with this thing. One day at a time.
I wish you the best of luck getting things figured out!! Don't hesitate to get a 2nd opinion at another dealership if you have to. Good Luck!

I have 185k on my truck, drive it everday and run her pretty good 75-85mph on the highway. I go over 3 mountains on my commute to work and 1 of those had hairpin curves on either side. With that being said I've kept this truck longer than any other vehicle that I've ever had. I haven't noticed any power loss and I've only preformed general maintenance, no major issues. Small problems but nothing that hinders the function of the unit. I've seen guys at work go through several vehicles in the time I've had mine. 2 guys bought F-150's within a few months of me buying my Tacoma early 2008. They both still have their trucks with less miles than mine and they have had some major issues in that time. I wish you the best with the GM let us know how it's holding up for you.

Please post your findings with your rumble if you find the problem before I do. I'll definitely post what is found out on my truck.

    Hi Everyone,
Stay tuned. I have an appointment with the dealership to take a test ride with a technician to figure this out.
I am planning to post what happens before the weekend.
Thanks again to everyone for your thoughts and ideas.

    Hi folks,

    A Quick update:

Just went on a test drive with a dealership technician. I was able to recreate the vibration.
The technician told me to press on the break pedal and a second later the vibration stopped.

He said he has an idea of what the problem is but will run diagnostics to confirm.

He has seen this problem before and says it will become worse between other gear transitions if it is the torque converter.

If it's the torque converter, the transmission has to be removed in order to do the replacement. This would translate to an expensive job.

    Stay tuned,
    Tom

I would suggest a ATF flush and go from there.

    R/R torque converter $2210-10%= $1900

The technician said this is not a pressing issue.
I have to wait for now.

I just flushed the transmission last year.

Is this even a good price?

Where can I go for an unbiased second opponion? I think a transmission shop will tell me the same thing because there is no incentive in turning away work.

    This is discouraging.

    Thank you DTACO06,
My transmission is sealed. No dip stick or fill.
Does the torque converter share the same fluid as the transmission?

Update on my situation. I did the tranny drain and refill and my vibes have stopped. I have 186k on my truck and this is the 1st time this has been done. I'm going to go about 1k and do it again. I called a local garage and was going to do a complete flush but they only do the drain and refill so I decided to just do it myself.

    Hillbillytoyo,
Is this the first flush at 186k miles?
Toyota did mine at 125k, no filter change or evidence of metal sediments. A curious thought is that the fluid may have accidentally not been replaced completely.

In the meantime, I have found a recommended neighborhood garage that I am planning to go to and ask them to check the fluid level and add the recommended additive.

I buy Toyota's because of their great reliability. They have even taken away the transmission filltube-dipstick because of this great reliability. I'm baffled by the occurrence of this problem. I think that a special warranty to fix this problem is in line here.

I will post the results of my visit with the new garage.

I will point out the issue has stopped after both times the tc was replaced; however, it always comes back. I refuse to believe my luck is really that bad. There has to be some external cause.

Been having this same issue for the past couple months. Looks like todays project is to drain/fill the ATF and add some Shudder Stop and see if that fixes the issue.
