this is a really old thread, but ill reply. My 2011 has bad hum at around 1700 to 2000. Most noticeable in 5th O/D but does it in all gears at the same rpm, which just happens to be at 55-65 mph. Where I spend the majority of my time. Lots of hum, and vibes felt in floor, in the pedals, in the steering. Its not a shake or shimmy. its like a low bass note vibe. Or blowing out your mouth and humming at the same time. Or just saying VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV. very annoying. Have not found a fix, and nobody seems to have to slightest clue

Anyone able to report back on the TSB fix? Does it solve the shudder problem?

Also, is the shudder an issue of potential part failure or just a cosmetic fix for a smoother ride?

Have you got all your vibrations figured out yet or do you still have some I’ve been dealing with a bunch so I’m curious I had the driveshaft re balanced new u joints and carrier and a high speed one went away now I have one only when the truck is cold usually only happens in neutral when coasting between 13-22 mph tires are balanced I can’t figure it out it is a 6speed 4wd aswell

Time to revive this thread again! I just recently bought a used 06 Tacoma, it had the 25 mph vibration before I bought it apparently. I changed the u joints yesterday and the vibration is still there, it's not often and I have not fully figured out how to replicate it. It only happens when accelerating, and stops when I take my foot off the gas. Any ideas?

Get under the truck and see how much movement you've got in the bearing supporting the driveshaft. I had vibration when accelerating, looked underneath and the bearing had a lot of play. A new bearing and center u-joint fixed the vibration.

Like I said, my u joints are brand new as of yesterday, I used Spicer, my carrier bearing has a little bit of up and down play, barely any, and no side-to-side play at all. Is there supposed to be some play in the CB or is it supposed to be completely rigid?

I was surprised at the difference in movement between the old bearing and new bearing. I don't think it's supposed to be completely rigid, I seem to remember reading 1/4"-3/8" of play is acceptable.

That sounds about right for mine, it's not moveable by much, like I said, the vibration doesn't always happen, its only occasional. I think it has to do with how fast I accelerate. I'm not 100% sure on that yet cause even then it doesn't always happen.

Mine was constant after every stop and in the span of about 20 miles went from slight to causing concern.

See, my truck has 230k on it, and I've put almost 1k miles on it since I bought it. It rarely happens still, and the guy I bought it from said it had been happening for a while, so I assume it's not something I need to really worry too much about if it's made it this far. It's more of an annoyance to me then anything.

I have an 07 Tacoma with 190K miles and it has just started the shudder / vibration. Had the tires rotated and balanced and still the same. Appreciate all the advice shared here in this thread.

10-16-18 Edit: Carried my Tacoma to the local Toyota dealer after my hometown garage wouldn't fool with it. (Said they had been unable to solve that problem with 06 to 09 Tacomas.)
Anyway, got a call today that they found two of the three u joints were bad and recommended changing all three while they were working on it and I agreed. Will pick it up tomorrow and see how it drives.

Did that fix your issue? I just bought a used 2002 Tacoma Prerunner and have the vibration right around 10-15 mph. Looking to fix myself if its just a new u-joint(which an inspection said I needed anyway)

Mine has had take off shudder for 200k miles.
It is not noticeable in 4x4 on wet roads.

My 99 taco did it in first gear. Never in 4x4
My F350 does it in first but have not tested in 4x4 since my front u joints are shot.

I blame axle wrap. Common in leaf sprung rears. Can get traction bars which binds the suspension, change over to coil springs which is a big PITA mod IMO or add in links to fine tune which gets expensive and time consuming.

I try to learn to enjoy the vibes, one passenger of mine smiles when I go full throttle.

I plan on doing the U-Joints this weekend and will advise if that fixes the issue or not and go from there.
Not sure I could get used to it and enjoy them. Feels like the drive shaft is going to fall off or something when it happens. I will try and get a video with sound as well before I do them as an example.
