I have a 4x4 OR DCSB MT coming next week, VIN number 5TFCZ5An2GX-------. Does this add up? My salesperson said that the 4x4's were only made in Mexico but the 5 in my VIN should mean USA? The reason why I'm asking is because the 4 black Tacoma's here at the dealership with the VIN's starting in 3 have the worst paint jobs I have ever seen on any brand new vehicle EVER! I've been a Aircraft and Auto painter for 30 plus years and the finish seems to be missing body in the paint and not enough clear, it's almost semi gloss like a first coat. I saw a couple pick up their black Limited and you could not get a clear reflection. The black Tacoma's with the VIN starting in 5 are Cherry! (deep wet finish, high gloss). What will I get? I don't know but if it comes in with that shitty paint job I will have to decline it. I've waited 4 months now and I'm not feeling it. Can somebody school me on my VIN. When I tried it says I have a 2wd coming, WT- TKS

Tks, but this is where I get confused. In my VIN the 5th position says it is a 2wd, I ordered a 4X4, Did my salesperson give me the wrong VIN?

also, yes it is possible they may have sent you the wrong vin. You'd be surprised by the lack of computer skills some of the employees have. I'd double check with them first thing. It's also quite possible toyota may have made minor adjustments in vin design. MY 4th vin code is an S which according to the chart is a "3DR Liftback 4WD"? Best bet would be for someone with a double cab to tell you their 4th vin code.

Yeah, as far as I can tell the US/Mexico manufacture split is MT/AT - all the manuals are assembled in Texas, all the automatics are assembled in Mexico.

It's like us manual drivers are special. US manufacturing, new 8.75" rear ends. What more could we ask for?

Incorrect. My truck is AT, made in Texas.

I believe that Mexico only makes DCSBs. Texas makes the gamut.

Thanks, I'm feeling better, just hope the paint finish looks wet. Can't believe their selling those trucks with that finish.

I think that is the VIN because it's on it's way and should be here next week. I asked for the VIN to get prepared for my insurance and that's what they gave me. You could be right, Tks

If the VIN is wrong the truck is wrong. I'd be calling my dealer.

Until the truck is built the vin is a temp. Mine changed the day after it was built and the new paperwork after it was built was the vin that it came with. If you ordered a manual it will be from Texas.
