    I had a '99 Xtra Cab PreRunner SR5 V6
    5 lug 4 bangers have the the 2.4L engine while the 6 lug 4x4/PreRunner have the 2.7L engines.

    the vin has a 0 in that spot though:confused:

    So anyone know how to decode a engine block number in a 2nd gen?

    For example:

    "1GR" is cast into the block.

    "8396771" is stamped in after that.

    Weird. My truck has SR5 badges and I'd have to check the spare window sticker thing in my paperwork, but I'm pretty sure it's an SR5, yet I have a '2' in my grade position, which indicates it's only a Deluxe. I can believe it's just a deluxe considering it has manual hubs, a bench seat, basic instrumentation (only speed, fuel, and temp gauges, with no tach, oil, or volt meter and not even a trip odo), and the only creature comforts are a/c and tilt steering, but then that begs the question of why it has SR5 badges.
