In the process of moving to Virgina Beach. Any trails out there I might like to try out? Even fire roads.

Youre looking at nothing in the immediate area unless you know someone with access to private stuff. Outer Banks or the mountains are your best bet.

Not much public land available in the area.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore - you'll need to buy a permit ($120/yr or $50/ten days)

If you have at least three days, Cape Lookout National Seashore is a bit further south but you can camp for free on the beach and no charge for the permit (figure $100+/- RT for the private ferry). Two sections, Portsmouth Island and South Core Banks. Both are good but PI is our preference.

Some light off roading (gravel type trails) at the WMAs nearby w/ free access if you have a hunting/fishing license...of course during non-hunting days is the best bet. Take a look at George Washington National Forest, not too far for a weekend trip w/ camping. there are a couple of guys who post up very good trail reports for VA on you tube (east coast overland). planning to mimic some of their routes this year myself. Good luck and keep us posted.
