VW caught cheating EPA board. 18 BILLION in possible recalls

It all depends if you are trying to sell though. I have a friend in Calgary trying to sell a tuned up 2011 GTi that was worth about 19K. Best offer he has after a month is just over 10K from the dealer on trade .

Hopefully once the fix is out there his value will come back up.

10 k is an excellent trade in @ a dealership for that car even before this epa crap

Not saying he should get a return on his mods all the time, but before this debacle a properly tuned TDI was worth it's weight in gold second hand. Now it's not. Hopefully the value will come back or someone will take it for what it's really worth.

 

If he's a car guy he should know not to expect to get any of the money he put into it back when he sold it. Thats like, modding 101.

 

Also it's not a base model GTi lol, I should of started with that. Before this debacle he was offered 15K CAD on trade from a Toyota dealer.

 

I don't see how a gas GTi has anything to do with the TDi crap? People who would want a tuned GTi know that the people who are in charge of the diesels are completely different than the people who built the GTi.

Or do they make GTi TDi's in canada?

TBH it's all about the media relation to VW. It doesn't matter what fuel the car runs unfortunately it seems. Like I said, I'm hoping when the hoopla dies down he will get a fair offer again.

So, like my original point says, yes if you are looking to sell your car now and you own a VW this is hurting you.

 

But what I'm saying is, the typical market for somebody who is trying to sell a modded car actually reads car news. So, if he's trying to sell it privately, he's advertising it to people who know that 1) VW is in a big scandal with their diesels right now and 2)those people who are under the microscope had nothing to do with the GTi.

The general market might think all VWs are bad because of the diesel scandal. But his car isn't targeted towards the general market.

Manuals hold their value better especially with a car in the gti market. He should return it to stock, especially if he's trying to trade it. A stock unmolested example is more valuable and easier to sell.

 

It's still sucks that he can't trade it though and get at least what was fair value for it. Anyways like ozt said that's about all she wrote on that.

I wish my local VW dealer would drop the price for the TDI tourage, didn't spend too much time but they didn't seam desperate to say the least.

 

those tdi tourages are sweet rides unfortunately the v6 tdi's aren't effected, would love to steal one out from under one of the green minded tdi band wagon customers
