The more rumors I hear about the 2015 the more I think Ishould hold off on the 2014 and get the 2015. I’m hearing things like the truck will be bigger with a larger motorwith more HP & torque. The onlyproblem is my 2000 Tundra has seen much better days and it’s going to bestretch to get another year out of it. I’djust hate to pick up a 2014 now and find when the 2015 comes out it’s a bigstep up. I’m curious to know if othersare on the fence with buying a 2014 or perhaps planning on selling/trading theircurrent Tacoma and moving towards the 2015. What are people's thoughts on what they have heard about the 2015? I know all the info at this time is onlyrumors but it seems likely the redesign will be a significant change.

    Thanks,

    Joel

There MIGHT be a redesign... dont expect drastic powertrain changes... more than likely the Dual VVTi version of the current 4.0L v8... a lil extra hp and tq and MAYBE an mpg more...

Buy a new 13/14 now and 2 or 3 years down the road get the new thing... hell you dont want a first year of a new powertrain anyways let them work the bugs out and buy a new on a year after the redesign.

I don't know what's to come, but I hope its not bigger. I bought the Tacoma partly because of its size. I don't need a fullsize and I can fit my truck in smaller spaces. If it gets any bigger, it might as well just be a fullsize. If I ever wanted a new one, and its bigger, I might rethink the Tacoma.

You've got a few possibilities to consider. They could introduce new engines in the current style Tacoma in late 2014 as a 2015 model and include some more interior upgrades. Toyota made a statement back in July or so of this year saying they are investing $200M into their V6 Engine factory to produce more Tacoma V6's. Kind of sounds like a retooling.

Worst case, I think you'll be seeing a 2015 Q3 release with new Engines. Don't see it going past then. Too much competition jumping up in Toyotas face + CAFE Standards.

I'm looking at holding off until the new Engines come out and we see how they perform. If everything checks outs - I'm all in on a TRD Offroad.

I think there will be major changes for the better. Slightly larger with better MPGs and more power. I am waiting for the redesign. I think the wait will be worth it.

Agree. Keep the same size, just more engine options and fix some of the existing issues, such as poor rear suspension and payload.

This was a big reason for me buying a Tacoma. I also don't see it getting bigger and as a result heavier. I don't think any big power train changes, like others a tweaking of the 4.0, maybe another gear in the automatic. CAFE I think will have a big influence on the new(?) 2015 Tacoma.

I think choice between hold off for newer model or get 2014 depends on what usage are you expecting.
Its seems Toyota always loses some functionality/durability item in favor of more luxury (cup holders)
for 1gen > 2gen So manual Tcase got replaced with electronic, manual hubs gone, sturdy frame and good payload gone ( I could fill bed with sand in my 1gen and still drove like champ)
Ability to run snow chains on stock truck front back with out worrying about stupid spindle.
Bigger tires with out having to chop cab mounts.
    etc etc...
One thing that most likely will be gone in 2015 model is elocker. None of the TRD OR Tundra trucks have one.

I hope the new design isn't any bigger either. It's size is pushing the limits to get around trails now. I do hope they make bed space a little wider. We have bigger trucks now than the 1st gens but the inside bed isn't as wide, and not sure about length mine's a shortbed. I hope they give us back the transfer case shifter too since the new 4runners got em back. And lock out hubs instead of ADD would be nice too but I doubt that one. If they give us lock outs then might as well add the straight axle to go with it lol. 4 or 5 more mpg would be nice too but more power I don't care about, these 4.0's do good. More power= less mpg. And surely they'll leave the e-locker, just add one to the front too. Oh and keep giving us a manual transmission, PLEASE don't do away with that, just make it better.

    thats very old speculation...

Heres the deal... more than likely it will be the 4.0L v6 with dual vvti... same motor we currently have but the newer dual vvti version thats in the FJ / 4runner / Tundra.

Best case, the 3.5L v6 direct injected 2GR-FSE .... but that more than likely will not happen..

Maybe for 2015 they will bring back and copy the 1985 toyota truck? Have a solid front axle and a diesel engine option? I dont think we will get that lucky!
