It's about time to change the oil and I usually go to Walmart to buy my oil because their 5 quart jugs are the cheapest, usually $10 or more less than auto parts stores. I also get a filter there, since the dealer is a bit of a drive compared to Walmart. Anyways I wondered if TW members also buy their oil there and what kind? Last time I bought Mobil 1 but I forgot if it was regular Full Synthetic, High Mileage or Extended Performance. Not sure the difference between the three. I believe the High Mileage has more zinc and phosphorus (is that a bad thing for our engines?) and all have different viscosity indexes.

    Around me Walmart has:
    Castrol 5W30 Edge Extended- $26.68
    Castrol Edge 5W30- $25.17
    Mobil 1 5W-30 Extended Performance - $28.68
    Mobil 1 5W-30 High Mileage - $26.44
    Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W30 - $27.97
    Royal Purple 5W-30 - $37.69
    Valvoline MaxLife 5W30 - $25.97
    Valvoline SynPower Full Synthetic 5W-30 - $22.47

So the Valvoline SynPower is the cheapest while the Royal Purple is the most expensive. Does Royal Purple have anything special that justifies it being $15 more than the cheapest Valvoline synthetic?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Of the choices I'd go Valvoline full synthetic.

Oil is oil. Change it regularly and I say you're good to go. I've used Valovline in the last three changes and haven't had any issues. I'm probably going to make the switch to Mobile 1 shortly, but who knows.

I usually choose between Valvoline and Mobile1 full synthetic depending on which is cheapest.

I'm running Castrol Edge because it was cheap at the time, but at those prices I'd go with the Valvoline full syn.

mobile 1 0w-30 for my v6..... honestly there is NO reason anyone running synthetic shouldn't run 0w-30.

Cost is the same as 5w-30

At Walmart - Got Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W30 - for $23 not $27.97 - Mobil 1 was $28 - was thinking of using Mobil 1 but didn't know if I could get the rebate. I can't even imagine any reason to spend $10 to $15 more for Royal Purple - I could enjoy a few beers after my oil change and still be ahead.

The online rebate for Mobile 1 that I saw expired on the 31st of October. Haven't seen any others. Anyone have one?

When you buy the oil (Mobile 1) in the bulk 5 qt container, what down everyone do about the 5.5qt requirement for the V6? Run 1/2 qt short or buy a single qt & add half?

That's what I run too. Intervals between 5000-7500 miles.

I buy the quart every other trip.

Alternatively, you could buy a second 5 qt jug and use it for 10 changes--that would work out cheaper in the long run.

I just buy the quart every other change as well. Little more expensive but it's one less oil jug in the garage to spill. Mobil 1 from Walmart is the best price you'll find.
