Since I am maintaining three daily use vehicles, I buy 4 5-quart jugs of Mobil-1 at Walmart per oil change evolution. Filters are by the case, Wix brand from discount fleet supply and stock many different filters for trucks, cars, motorcycles, ATV and such.

As for the "extra" half quart, I always have a open jug of oil in the shop, plus the jeep needs a quart or two between changes.

the 3k oil change interval is obsolete...the old 3k is the new 5k or by time...every six months.

I heard a car expert say that 3,000 is still the rule. He said longer intervals is just a thing automakers incorporated as a selling tool.

and that was valid a few years ago...but the world has changed, fuel injection has reduced gas contamination, better rings reduce blowby and better oil increases life.

    but do what you want.

Yup. I reset the oil light on the taco and change when it comes back on (5k or roughly every 4-5 months of driving for me)

I just do 5qt instead of the 5.5 qt.... It's just a smidge below the full line on the dipstick like all of an 1/8 th of an inch. Nothing to worry about.

Dog friendly, with dog snot on inside windows, with of course a/c! Mag 16 inch wheels from a Mazda.
Basically they all meet and even some exceeds the manufacture requirements! So personally I go for the cheapest synthetic motor oil Walmart. These are other articles I found interesting!
    Motor Oil Durability Comparsion Test
Found this article online of testing different motor oils. That are offer off the shelf at any auto supply store. Even tho it was done in 06 it was very interesting how they tested them. Royal Purple R51 came on top at $35 for 5 qt jug. Tho I still like my $17.50 Walmart oil. http://www.animegame.com/cars/Oil Tests.pdf
Breaking Rusted Nuts & Bolts Loose!
Found this to be an interesting article, on what to use to break loose those rusted nuts and bolts. "Machinist's Workshop" recently published information on various penetrating oils. The magazine reports they tested these products for "break out "torque" on rusted nuts and bolts. A subjective test was made of popular penetrating oils, with the unit of merit being the torque required to remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted" bolt. Average torque load to loosen nut:

No Oil used ........................516 foot pounds
    WD-40 ..................... ........238 foot pounds
    PB Blaster .........................214 foot pounds
    Liquid Wrench ......................127 foot pounds
    Kano Kroil .........................106 foot pounds
    ATF/Acetone mix...................... 53 foot pounds

The ATF/Acetone mix is a "home brew" mix of 50/50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone. Note this "home brew" released bolts better than anycommercial product in this one particular test.
Our local machinist group mixed up a batch, and we all now use it withequally good results. Note also that Liquid Wrench is almost as good asKroil for 20% of the price.ATF/Acetone mix is best, but you can also use ATF and lacquer thinner in a50/50 mix. ATF = Any type of Automatic Transmission Fluid.

Fuel injection, and the elimination of lead in gasoline, plus advances in engine design makes 5,000 miles changes safe. My 1993 Mazda truck had a 7500 mile oil change interval. 3,000 mile is a waste - unless you drive only 3,000 miles a year.

I like that Mobil 1 makes their own oil unlike other companies that buy their base oils. Just wondering about the durability of SuperTech synthetic over time compared to a name brand that's maybe $5 more.

If you're changing your oil every 5k miles , that's not exactly "over time". If you were using say a 15k mile interval I would completely agree with that concern.

Mobil 1 Full Synthetic for me from Walmart due to their price. I change every 5k miles give or take as I use the light on the dash as my reminder. I do write down my mileage as well that's on a note pad in the glove box.

Mine is a 2011 Dbl Cab 4x4 with 104k at the moment.

If it is API certified its good enough for my Taco. Its pretty much the same story behind generic vs brand name when it comes to drugs, all the same just at a different price point.

This is 100% true. Companies will purposely produce a "generic" brand at a lower price because they know that a certain percent of the populous will inherently by generic vs name brand. It's ultimately the exact product only under a different name and pseudo company. This tactic ensures they sell to the largest market percentage over the competition.
