    Hey gun nuts,

    Here's my deal.

Currently have a Glock 19 9mm in excellent condition. Got bored with it and dislike the grip. Been thinking about selling or trading it for a 1911 .45. I don't have much knowledge about 1911s except the fact it feels like orgasm when I shoot it and there's a lot of proud history behind the gun.

I want a reliable 1911 for around $500 that will eat up all types of rounds and is reliable if the time comes for me to defend myself.

    Here are my questions:
    1) What's a reliable 1911 for around $500? Prefer it to be made in the USA.
    2) Gun dealer I frequent buys guns. How much do you think I'll get for my Glock 19 with 7 magazines? These magazines are 10-rounders.
    3) How much more does it cost to shoot .45 over 9mm?

If it matters, I live in the People's Republic of Commifornia.

    Appreciate any responses.

I got a springfield armory GI 45 champion. It was right at $500 and so far it will shoot anything i put into it.

Its alittle smaller than the normal 1911. I think its a 4.5" barrel so its light and easy to carry. For a box of FMJ your looking at $20 so its not that expensive. If you go with the home defense stuff your looking right around $1 per bullet.

I shoot both quite a bit and the 45 is not quite double the price of 9mm. And I buy ammo mostly at Walmart. Just bought a 100 pack of 45 Winchester 230 gr. FMJ for 34.00. And for the 9mm they had Remington 250 pack for 54.00 in 115 gr. FMJ
I have a springfield 1911 that I bought brand new for $725 so not a bad price hear in NorCal.
If the glock is good shape and those many mags you should be looking at around $500 for that gun. We have quite a few 40 GLocks for sale for around 5 to 6 bills used and only 1 or 2 mags.

i got a Rock Island Armory A1 Tactical. only thing is that its made in the Philippines. real solid gun for the price tho, which runs around $500. you can do some research, and you will find nothing but good reviews on it. Other good 1911's around your price range are: Auto Ordnance, Springfield, and the Para GI Expert

If you were in MO, I'd trade you. I need another 19 for a full-house custom job, and I never shoot my 1911.

You'd probably get the most money out of your Glock by selling it with 2 mags. I'd ask $450 and take $400 if you wanted a quick sale. Then sell the other 5 mags for $15/pc, assuming they're genuine Glock mags.

You still could, you'd just need to coordinate between FFL dealers. Should only run about $25 for each of you.

I've had 1911 fever for a while now. Now that I've finally got one (Kimber SIS Pro), I love it as much as my ARs. If I were you, I'd get a previously owned SA and you can do a little here and there until you get it the way you want.

I have 2 1911's, a para P14 and a Springfield TRP. The TRP is a wet dream but well above $500. In your price range tarus gets you the most for your money. But you get what you pay for.

I'm in MO and always looking for a nice 1911. What do you have?

I'm right a 9 1911s right now, down from 11, so I feel like I need to get a couple more.

Hey just a question. I had researched the Springfield guns a while back and found that the XD series were being mde in Croatia and that several of the components for the 1911 were being made in Brazil. Is that still the case or has that changed? Anyone know?

Yep, I do believe you're right. The 1911 frames with NM in the front of the serial number doesn't mean "National Match". It means the frames were made in Brazil.

Speaking of Springers, I really hate that they glue in the ejector. There is no pin going through the frame to lock the ejector in like most all other 1911s. At least I can replace the mainspring housing to get rid of the stupid ILS lock.

Springfield GI or something used. Honestly, I would keep the Glock 19.
I have both a Springfield MilSpec 1911 and a Glock 19. Honestly, I find myself carrying the Glock 19 most everyday these days. 1911's are nice, but I like Glock for every day carry.

1911's are my favorite pistol design ever, so I'm not saying Glock is better by any means. From my experience, I have done a lot of buying/selling/trading and I regret letting go most of the guns I have let go in the past. You bought the Glock for a reason. If you just really can't stand it anymore, then trade it but really think about it first.

Seems like I don't have much choices for my price range. I recently held a Rock Island Armory 1911. Priced $500 at my local gun shop. Seems pretty nice and have heard good reviews about them. I know it's not made in USA but made in the Phillipines.

What do you guys think about the Rock Island Armory 1911? My friend has a GLOCK 21 .45ACP with only a 100 rounds through it and he's offering to trade me his Glock 21 for my Glock 19. Hmm...

Yeah $500 is pretty low for a good 1911 that has good sights and other features you'll want, save your money and buy a good one, on that note I have heard alot of good things about the tarus 1911s
