I just bought a one-owner 2006 Tacoma Sport 4x4 on Saturday and the previous owner installed a Viper alarm. It has two remotes, one shaped like a normal remote fob and the other like a small cell phone. It works perfectly. I don't need an alarm and you can have it for the cost of shipping from Arizona plus the cost of removing it from the truck. I can get a quote for the removal from a local company I've done business with in the past. Perhaps removal is straightforward and I could do it myself, but I haven't even looked to see where it's mounted or how it ties into the OEM harness and everything.

Anyway, it's something you can consider. I'll get more information on it if you're interested.

    Thanks.
    Keith

P.S. You can PM me to complete the process.

Don't do it, an off brand car alarm is never a good idea. This guys used viper is a much much better bet if you want to buy new get something made by dei. Clifford, viper and python are all dei brands and top quality product you are better off with an entry level system from them than some no name alarm. Wih electronics if you haven't heard of the brand there is usually good reason for that.

I would never buy a used car alarm.

    WHY?

    Let me pose a scenario.
You call the guy, you stop by his place, or meet at your place, doesn't matter. He can or will have you cell/phone number and license plate. Probably your name too.

Through a simple reverse look-up or public record search can yield a surprising amount of information, including address.

He drives by with the extra key-fob he still has and chirp-chirp, instant access to your vehicle and everything inside.

Sound paranoid? You be surprised how many people I dealt with that needed 'spare' fob's for car their alarms, and this got me to thinking why do people need 2, 3 or even 4 key fob's?

if the installer does his job right he would re program the alarm with only the remotes present at the time. on any alarm you can and should delete all current memory and program it to work only with the remotes that the current owner has at the time of install. that said im not a big fan of used alarms because i like to start with a fresh wire harness. the wires all go to different locations depending on the vehicle and the installation is always cleaner when you start with a fresh wire harness and cut them to length for the vehicle once and leave it in there forever.

Viper 5901. Alarm and remote starter in one. And you can control it with your iphone.
