Want to make STICKY DIY Valve Cover Gasket

i used a 22mm deep wrench do to my pvc post valve replacement. took 5 minutes and was able to turn it by hand. i did pop off the wire loom at the back to free up space.

136,500 miles. i get my oil changes at the local dealer and run whatever they put in. it's not as clean as it looks. i had a little short drive gunk build up on the oil cap and on the underside of the cover. a nice hot shower cleaned them up. hopefully long sat drives will keep it from coming back. 3 miles to the train station in sub single digit temps isn't the best thing for it.

you have both inner and outer gaskets? You be pissed if you only bought one.

it's not a bad job. just oily.

i'd recommend reading the factory service manual as well. it has the torque numbers (80inlb) and order or torque. start in the middle and work your way out and around. do the bolts by the spark plug holes first. i ended up making about 3 laps around the cover just using a socket and extender before they were all hand snug.

 

Cool thanks yea I have both gaskets. Got the felpro set. Opened box to make sure. Noticed it says unreturnable once opened.
Lol Yea I did my Pcv valve at work using a 2 ft open end wrench. Moved the loom and bent the metal hanger back a little. Should had done it at home.
Old one didn’t like being turned by hand till like half way out.
Figured the torque was kinda like heads but was going to check to be sure.

Jeff, this video may be of help too. At 4:45 he shows the bolts and order of torquing them down. At 5:00 he shows the 2 spots you want to put RTV silicone to seal it up. This is a 4 hour 3 beer job.

What are you using for oil and your change interval?

 

Dealer stock. 5k intervals

 

i do Mobil 1 oil 5w-20 and every 4,000 used to do 3,000 but i said fuck it and i do fresh oil change every time before a dezz trip

and Toyota use's Mobil 1 at dealer

Does anyone have pictures or write-up for replacing valve cover gasket on a 2nd Gen V6? Was going to replace my spark plugs over the weekend and noticed a small amount of oil when taking out the first plug. Figured I better change the gasket and seals before putting the new plugs in. The pictures and info are helpful, but seeing pics or a writ-up for a V6 would help me out even more cause that's what I'll be working on.

Seems they could have spared some extra wire on the looms shit that’s tight.
Time to clean and put this back together I’m about 40 minutes deep as of now. But I’m not rushing. Been along winter.

Took me about 2-3 hrs. But I didn’t rush and ran around the bolts a good 3 times. Lol also used the kitchen sink and the wife’s scrubby thing to clean oil from outside of cover.
That’s just plain gonna disappear.
I appreciate everyone’s help here and it for sure made it way easier.
