Ha ha, I still stand by my quote cg. I do drive away @ -30+, but certainly remove any snow before driving away slowly. Like I mentioned, I pull out of a garage. But regardless of how cold it's gotten (-40), I have never gone back into the house to have a coffee.... Defrost works pretty quickly for me, as well as my heated seats. It's cold as Phuck, but I have my man card in hand...

You are trading RPM for PSI and BTU. Letting the engine idle is not a good thing. If you insist to warm it up, at least you can sit in there burp the throttle.

I went back found the original video he referred to. Even though people should always take the opinion from a salesman, he did make a lot sense in terms of how engines work.

Because i don't want to deal with crowds or people, cars and trucks everywhere, and having a house without a big yard plus trees all around.

Yes, the older I get the more a peaceful life I like. The main problem in Alaska is the high cost of living, which makes it a bad place to retire. But I have been over here for so many years, that it makes no sense to move to any other State with people and crime everywhere. There is a lot of crime over here, usually in some areas one can avoid, but quite safe where I live at.

    Yep.

I hate crowds and traffic. I really value my peace and quiet.

I also love the snow and the cold. I would hate to live in a place where it always stays hot.

I moved from a metropolitan city to up north in BC about a year and half ago and couldn't be happier.

Everything is better here. I can even leave my front door unlocked and not worry about anything.

I would never, ever live in a big city again. Not a chance.

While I certainly get what you're saying, last summer my wife and I moved from a semi-rural area of New Hampshire to just outside of Washington DC. Why? Happy wife, happy life. :)

If you want to see-within Canada- a similar landscape like the interior of Alaska, travel North and explore the Yukon area. I often watch the YouTube videos titled, Destination Adventure. The host is a Canadian fella from BC, I believe. He shows the old road built by the US military from Canada to Alaska (Canoil Road?). He has several videos of his travels to Alaska, the Yukon, and so on.

The last time my wife and I drove the Alaska Highway from Seattle, WA to Fairbanks was in 1987. By the way, now and then I take photos of the Auroras, and am certain that lots of Canadian "picture takers" like I am are having a blast taking photos of the Auroras. These should be a lot more active in Northern Canada than the interior of Alaska, at least this week.

Young men, don't get married or else you'll go from living in a quiet, rural area to the ghetto next to the White House

Ummm, well, to be honest, as much as I like rural areas, living 25 miles from DC has certain advantages.

    Depends on the wife?

In my case, I was diagnosed with something bad a year and a half ago and the healthcare here in Maryland is not only top notch, I can either walk or ride my bike to it.

Have you experienced subzero temps, my friend? Only the living suffer from wind chill, but the metal machines are still some fucking cold.
Modern auto transmissions have heating/cooling cycles, engines need to settle out of their gas rich startup procedures, the fucking wheel is -2F, the engine sounds like a bag of marbles.
I would rather buy a maintained vehicle that idled in the extreme cold, meaning 10F or below, than one that was started and sent.

You don't have that just right.

Only WARM / HOT items are subject to wind chill.
Fish are "living" but are cold, thus no wind chill effect for them (out of the water of course).
Fresh brewed coffee is not "living", but is hot, and we blow on it (wind chill) to cool it down.
A just driven in vehicle, with a hot engine, parked outside in the wind WILL react to wind chill. Once it is cooled down to a cold engine, then the wind has zero effect on it.

(for the record, I suffered 25 years in MN. I know below zero temps. Well below zero.)
