Just as the title states do not but the Icon extended travel coilovers kit for your 16' Tacoma. I will keep this simple, in their advertising they claim this kit is adjustable up to 2". The problem is that in their installation literature they straight up tell you do not exceed 1.75" of threads showing which is the max setting before your truck rides like sh$t and there is a possibility of damaging suspension components while off-roading. So on the max setting of 1.75" thread showing you should get 2" of lift right? WRONG, myself and plenty others with this kit are getting 1.5" of lift on this setting and mine is currently cranked all the way to 2.25" just to get the advertised 2" of lift (for my tires not to rub). This results in a horrible ride just like Icon says it will. This thread is a warning, people keep saying "you should just change the springs out". Excuse me douchebag, if I just spent $1200 on a kit that says it will give you at least 2" lift why in the hell should I have to buy new springs to achieve this?? If you have this kit and you are having the same issues please contact me. If you don't have this set-up and are one of the aforementioned dbags please keeps your worthless comments to yourself. I love this forum for the people that are experienced and know what they're talking about so thanks.

Okay, I'm actually going to help OP. Given all the coil over gods here I'm surprise no one threw this one at OP...

OP, you can buy a different spring for your coil overs :smack:. I'm not sure what length or stock weight the stock spring is but find that out and then add 50 lbs plus an inch with a new spring. Viola, you'll get the lift you want without cranking down on the spring as hard.

How about some detailed photos of your installed coilovers?

How are you measuring lift? by the amount of exposed threads above the ring by chance?

The 2016 suspension is not much different than 2005-2016 so not sure why you would get different results. Icons are much like Fox, King and others, not sure why Icon would be different here.

Why do you suggest extended travel Icons have an issue and not standard travel?

I have Icon extended travel coilovers and they ride GREAT on the 2016, just like on my 2006.

@OddTaco it's not just Icon that this is happening with. Remember, all of these kits out right now are just 2nd gen kits. The companies didn't compensate for the higher weight of the 3rd gen. So that's where the issue is coming from.

You are forgetting the extra weight on the third gen. This is a problem for all of the manufacturers who just decided to go with the 2nd gen kit for the 3rd gen. However, King offers a 700 lbs spring package stock for the Tacoma so that setup shouldn't have the issue nearly as bad.

Well considering it was never available for the 2nd gen, I'm sure they engineered it for the 3rd gen

I have not noted any difference with the coilovers on the 2016. Extra weight? Not much more on the 2016, not enough to require 700 lbf/in springs IMHO.

My 2006 weighs much more with full armor and bumper and still has 650 lbf/in springs on it and rides great.

Do we know the OP has correctly installed coilovers? PHOTOS!

    2015 - 4285 lbs
    2016 - 4480 lbs

200 lbs more weight on the 2016 in the DCLB config. The difference is similar throughout the range. Check it out for yourself:

    http://www.toyota.com/content/ebrochure/2015/tacoma_ebrochure.pdf
    http://www.toyota.com/tacoma/ebrochure/

Considering most companies tell you to add 50 lbs to the spring if you even look at an aftermarket bumper that might weight 100 lbs... yeah...

Oh, and I'm guess the Icons come with 600 lbs springs stock in this application for whatever reason. When I was looking at coilovers almost everyone offered 600 lbs springs stock and that would cause issues trying to get 3" of lift from the coilover without a pile of preload.
