One other trick- use a couple binder clips or alligator clamps to hold the belt on the various pulleys. Helps keep your sanity lol

Figured it out. Once the belt tensioner is on, but the pin is still in, you want the slack part of the belt to be on the tensioner pulley section. This accounts for the extra slack once the pin is removed. Before I had no slack there so it had no choice but to turn the crank pulley.
    Physics lol

Are these lobes suppose to be pointing straight down compressing the shim while at TDC??

I have them stacked on top of each other in one pic. This is what the website shows and one of them indeed does look different.

Your not going to like what I say, but DO NOT reuse the gaskets.. get new ones..

shitty. But you don’t want to do this a 3rd time. Hit the dealer up and see what they can get them for oem. Probably not bad and less wait time

    LOL.

i had a kid come into the dealer admitting defeat with his engine rebuild. he installed the gasket wrong once.. figured it out, pulled it apart, reassembled it with the old gasket.. had issues still.. pulled it apart again, use high temp RTV on the gasket... yea it was a mess. it happens.

sadly i had to replace his engine completely.. the removal of the head multiple times lead to the threads pulling out of the block.. and the head had enough warpage to say "probably not worth surfacing vs replacing the whole thing with a new motor.

Don’t forget new head bolts too. Bummer!

I was about to post them for sale because I ended up going OEM, but if you want a bolt and head gasket kit you can have this one for free. Only shitty part is that they are composite HG’s instead of MLS. But if you are in a time crunch and can’t wait for OEM hit me up

Opinions on 3M roloc discs to clean the surface on the block? There's a few tiny deposits left on each side of the block from the old MLS gaskets that are just not coming off with a razor blade or acetone. I can barely feel them with a bare finger. I'm tempted to just send it. Also debating on resealing the oil pump since I have the pan off right now... project scope creep is going to kill me.

    No Rolex’s on decks/heads!
The tiny grit that is embedded in the rubber falls off during use and ends up in your oil galleries/pan. This eventually embeds them into the babbit on your crank bearings, scoring your crank journals, now you need a new engine.

For the more stubborn parts I used Scotchbrite pads on the deck that were soaked with Kroll oil, then wiped away the slurry.
