    At least our Tacoma's didn't need to be built using stolen tax payer money!!! Toyota makes thier money the honest, hard working way. Oh darn, that's how american auto makers ues to make cars.

    Yeah, I wonder about that, too. It is not rocket science for Toyota to put in a lock.

    I have to admit, however, I would rarely make use of the lock. In reality, for most people who have an open bed pickup, the only thing a bed lock does is make it more difficult for someone to walk off with the tailgate. Yes, this does happen now and then, but if someone wants your tailgater, it's not hard to rip out the lock as well, for the ones who have them on their gates. Just an extra few seconds with a crowbar or lowjack. I am not overly concerned with having my tailgate stolen. With that being said, yes there should be a lock on the tailagte, just to keep the honest people honest. But if someone really is set on getting your tailgate, a flimsy tailgate lock won't stop them. I have seen the locks on my friends Tundra. Not exactly bullet proof.

    Bush initiated the bailout offers during his lame-duck months.

    Obama initiated the actual government takeover of GM when it was apparent the bailout was insufficient to save the company... then handed the company over to the UAW.

    As much as I hate Ford.... when it comes to government bailouts:

    Chrysler = 2
    GMC = 1
    Ford = 0

    Blame the nannies.

    Trucks "win" and obliterate compacts in accidents because of bumper height, so designers are forced to lower the bumper height on trucks to make it a fair fight.

    Please....I'll see them GMC drivers at 200k+ miles...we'll see who's laughing then.

    There's a few things in that vid that don't add up...Tacoma's can have a S/C option to compete with there 300HP V8. We DO have a maintenance required light that pops on when the oil needs changed. And all that talk about "looks"...The Tacoma has them beat on that too...the Canyon is ugly as sin. On the interior, Leather sucks ass IMO...I live out in the desert so I don;t like to have the skin burnt on my ass. If you wanna seat 6 people or more than get an SUV or Mini Van. Oh and a "Leather Steering wheel?" There just trying to look for stuff now...who cares about that lol! Tacomas can have a bed extender so that takes care of there "2 position tail gate". And the Tacoma will do ANYTHING there Canyon can do off road...but better! Stupid GMC...you know why Toyota doesn't offer all these extended warranty plans??...Because we don;t frickin' need them! Toyotas are bullet proof and built to last...can't say the same for GMC or Chevy...so all I have to say to this comparison is...

    You wouldn't even need the supercharger the V8 isn't offering much more in the way of capability over the V6. I enjoy how they point out the I5 makes more horsepower as if that's all that matters. They ignore the fact the I5 makes less torque. Plus the I5 tows less and is wheezy and gutless and slow lol. Plus the Canyon doesn't offer a backup camera or navigation option. The Taco obviously offers more capability and features more useful options. Who cares about leather and bench seats, how much does that add to your off road or towing ability. Besides, if you're trying to cram 6 people in a midsize truck you're doing it all wrong!

    For everyone who wants the tailgate lock, only the early Colorado/canyons had it. GM to went cheap and eliminated that feature on the 2009-up 355 twins. Even if the Colorado has features the Tacoma doesn't, they still need to function properly to be effective. For example, my Colorado had rear Cargo lights but oh wait the third brake lights seal fails and water seeps in and ruins your headliner. My Colorado had all backlight instrumentation which included window/door lock switches, mirror buttons, 4wd buttons illuminated etc. but hardly any of them made it to the 50k mark and they were all burnt out and GM doesn't offer replacement bulbs for them, awesome. Bottom line is Tacoma is more reliable and will last longer, this is why i now own a Tacoma and now visit this Forum.

    Let me help renew your hatred of Fords.

    Ford didn't receive bailout money but it wasn't for lack of trying. Roll back the clock to 2006 and Ford was worse off than the other 2. Since the banking industry hadn't exploded yet Ford was able to mortgage its assets in 2006 to raise $24.5 billion. This is the same process that GMC and Chrysler would have used but by the time they realized they were in trouble the banks had stopped loaning the cash. Thus the reason why they asked for assistance. Now, Ford saw this as some sort of unfair advantage so they too asked for government assistance even though Ford didn't need it. They requisitioned the government for 14 Billion total ($9 billion line-of-credit from the government, and a $5 billion loan from the Energy Dept.)
    This loan was not granted because as stated earlier, it wasn't needed. In my view asking for something when you don't need it is worse than asking for something when you do need it.
    Here's my 2 cents as well. I'd rather my tax dollars go towards helping out those who were adversely affected by this whole ordeal through no fault of their own (AKA factory workers and the like) rather than an endless number of other stupid things this country spends it's money on with no return on investment.
    It makes me wonder how many people 5 years from now will still be bitching about his whole deal long after the loans have been paid off. Maybe instead of pissing in the wind about how your tax dollars were spent for an auto LOAN. Maybe try showing a little patriotic pride in knowing that your tax dollars were used to save a few of the oldest auto makers in the world and all the families that can still put food on their tables because we as Americans had their backs. Pfft, Government Motors... Folks when you gonna learn? Our Tacomas that we love dearly are more or less government backed too. Granted they don't receive federal cash but I guarantee they probably get a nice fat state tax break in the districts their plants are located and that's pretty much the same damn thing.
    Rant over, I'm done with this tread. The Canyon video is a joke at best and I have and always will love my Toyotas since my first 1978 Hilux Dually.

    I used several sources for this but this one sums it up the best.

    the only problem with your analysis is, much of the bail-out money given to GM & Chrysler, is not a loan...and will never be paid back.

    you also fail to mention the bond holders who got took in the process...those too are hard working Americans who had life savings within those holdings. And how about retirees who pensions are are attached to GM &/or Chrysler stock?...they too took it in the shins.

    the initial premise of a government loan guarantee offered by the Bush Administration pales in comparison to the boondoggle President Obama's administration got the tax payers involved in.

    The whole thing is/was political. And while I agree that the typical union auto worker has/had no dog in the hunt...it was absoultly a play to garner political support from the unions.

    If not so...where was the government bail-out for the non union construction workers? The non union real estate industry?

    Yes, hundreds of thousands of auto worker jobs were at stake. However, MILLIONS of construction & real estate industry jobs are/were as well.

    Wrapping yourself in the American flag does not make your premise hold more weight than not. It's not that simple.

    No, they aren't crying; they don't care.

    I do want to give a big THUMBS UP to Buick Motor Division. IMO the Buick Grand National was the most reliable and fun car I've ever owned. It's too bad the other Divisions aren't like Buick. If they made a new GN exactly to a T just like the 87 GN, I would be in that showroom in an instant.

    Excellent job, BUICK!

    Hello Gentlemen. As this is my first post on Tacoma World I'd like to say hello to everyone and what a great site TW is. Re: Canyon/Tacoma video, I believe the authors of the video should wait until after both trucks have 50,000 miles on them and compare the same two trucks again. Seriously, that would be much more entertaining and educational. Don't you think?

    Nope- had a couple of rum drinks in me though. :p Every brand has it's faithful followers but experience leads me to believe the Toyota is a better product (even though I gripe about mine and how it's not as well made as past Toyota products).
