Mine keeps filling up too. Think I might put a small goldfish in there just for aesthetics....

    small thing LOL
get a trooper pissed off, and if one required light has water in it, it can
fail roadside inspection and generate a ticket

-dual license plate lights mandatory in MA
-all lights cannot have water in them

Dealership said it was because I changed my bulbs to LED's. Ha! it was already doing before the swap that because the OEM bulb was wet and rust all over it from the terminals on the connector and the bulb. Told this info to Toyota Corporate as well so I'm going to see if they help with my cause. I'm not too concerned about it right now, but the housing will get replaced down the road.

Hey so I thought I’d touch on this topic I had the same problem with my license plate light full of water so I took it all apart and figured out what’s wrong. If you look at the pictures below you will see this green tag looking thing that Toyota decided was a good idea to leave in between the seal for some reason. They are on both sides so I suggest you remove the both of these. It’s easier to pop the assembly out as a whole and leave the light connector plugged in until it’s out and you can remove it easier. Once I pulled these both out and cleaned the surface area where the seal sits in the light housing I re tested for leaks with a pressure washer on both sides and nothing. No leaks. No added seals or rtv just need to remove these green tags

They gave me the same BS line. I talked to the service manager and mentioned the Magnuson Moss Act in a not-too-friendly manner. They fixed it. I still swapped out the LEDs with the original bulbs the next time it happened to avoid the BS. It hasn't leaked after the 2nd fix.

I noticed a 2018 tacoma on the dealers lot last week with water inside the license plate light. Made me wonder if this was a one-off or if there's still a problem with this. Seems like this would have been addressed by now.

So basically just wait to see if they leak, and if they do, go get the tsb? Or should one go in and just ask for new units?

I would find out what the tsb says and go from there. I’m sure it’s posted somewhere on this site.

The TSB has them replace the wire harness. It is not a quick/simple operation, but it worked for me.

Good deal. I gave up on dealing with the dealer so I bought new housings on my own. Just haven't installed them yet.

I had the same issue on my 2018 TRD OR. Drivers side - dealer replaced housing under warranty. I did not know it was a common issue either until I happened upon this thread....
