The dealer should have a record of it tho since it was a trade in and sold as a certified pre-owned and the arrive tech is supposed to look over the vehicle from bumper to bumper and make sure everything is legit. So we'll see. I'm still waiting for the claims rep to call me and get the official word of what they're gonna do.

Have they told you what's wrong with the truck? Has anyone done a compression check?

They just told me it was hydrolocked but I already knew that cause when it happened I took stuff apart and found water on three plugs and cranked the engine by hand and the cylinder closest to the firewall on the driver side has a busted rod.

Did you crank the engine with some of the plugs still in there? If so then that would just be the compression you were feeling. If it was without the plugs then yeah it's mostly likely a thrown rod. The best way to check is to do a compression check and it'll tell you which cylinders are having problems. Mine was easy to tell because it had a rod through the block.

Ya I pulled all the plugs and it was just that one(as far a I know) that I could tell was hanging up in the cylinder.

So... I was able to speak with the GM of the local dealer regarding my situation and getting the repairs covered buy them for missing the damaged fender liner on their inspection. Well that didn't go so well. They told me that due to the fact I have larger tires(285/75/16) caused the problem and that I was off roading my truck in deep mud and water; said this because my truck had mud splatter on most of the truck. First off, those of us who went on the pine valley run know that there wasn't any deep mud or water, second and most importantly when the mishap happened in a parking lot a few blocks away from my house, third just because my truck is dirty doesn't mean that it caused the problem, and last and ridiculously last is my large tires they claim played a part in what happened. They said I needed to take responsibility for the damage that occurred(made me furious when the GM said this to me) and told me that my truck wasn't made to go through deep mud and water. They were basically saying my TRD off road isn't really for off roading. If they really think my 4x2 truck was in deep mud and water then they can check the inside of the cab to see if there is water damage.

I'm so furious with the dealer right now.

Hmmmm, wonder if a lawyer would be a good idea at this point? No way would big tires cause that issue... wouldn't that be covered under the magnusson-moss act?

Do you have a report or receipt saying where the truck was toed from? throw that at them, say it was in a parking lot, that way you can point out where the standing water was? Just an idea

did you notice the fine print in those commercials Brian? they said vehicles depicted have aftermarket equipment, and do not duplicate stunts depicted as it may cause vehicle damage

I think you need to call corporate Toyota. Talk to them. Dealer screwed up by selling truck with missing parts. Now they trying to wiggle out of responsibility.

Ya I plan on getting the tow slip from the towing company. I even called the toyota 24hr roadside assistance so there might even be a record from that as well. I already have the 160pt inspection sheet printed out and highlighted 4 areas so far where they should have checked or noticed the damaged fender liner. I never thought that this dealer would be so ridiculous to help out. Last time I buy a truck from them I guess.

Ya I was looking into that as well. I think they would have a hard time proving that my "oversized" tires caused the damage lol. And the mud would just seal the deal. Who takes a TRD off road these days?

Ya I called them twice. The first time to tell them that the dealer was being super rude and unhelpful, and the second was the more important call. I proposed this question to them(toyota corporate),

Me: if I were to cut my plastic fender liner out at home in my garage would this result in a denied claim or voided warranty?
Corp: Yes this would definitely void any warranty or be grounds for a denied claim if it's found to have directly contributed to the cause of the problem.
    Me: Well here's the situation...

And I went on and explained to them what happened and explained that that's how I purchased my vehicle from the dealer. They said they were gonna submit my case to "higher ups" basically and have it investigated and someone will be calling me back within a few days.

Well it's finally time for some good news. I got a call from the dealer today and they said that they have come up with a new decision. They decided that they are going to cover any additional costs that insurance won't pay and all I had to do was give them the ok to go ahead and start work. I agreed to this solution because it seems to me that they are owning up to the error during the inspection when they received the truck. So all I have to do is pay my deductible and I'll be getting a new engine. It's about time. I've been without my truck for 5 weeks now:eek: The only sad part is, when I need a new truck or vehicle I won't be going to them again.
