The coating isn't too slippery, but if your worried you can install the main factory plastic over the top. This way the only non factory exposed part is on the top edge.

Can you also do the bed rails while you have aluminum in stock?

Depending on how many orders for the reinforcements I get it may be a possibility. I just ordered some material so if there's room to cut them along with the necessary number of tailgate reinforcements then I'd be happy to fill the space with them.

Great! PM me if that will be a possibility. I would like to order them as a set so I can save on shipping.

Is there any strength difference between aluminum diamond plate and the plain aluminum?

probably not really a measurable difference. I would expect much the same in way of strength

I just picked up my Tacoma a month ago and I am curious how much the stock gate can handle? I do like that diamond-plate setup. What kind of coatings would work on something like that?

Just ordered mine. Diamond plate powder coated. I've been loading motorcycles lately. Hopefully this doesn't make the tailgate much heavier.

Looking forward to seeing it installed.

    Thank you

How tight does the outer lip sit to the tailgate? I measured my tailgate just now and i swear the 2" measurement on the drawings posted earlier is too wide...I know that's an "outside" dimension, but wouldn't there be like a 1/4" gap with that? Anyone have a cross sectional pic with a tape measure beside it?

If you measured the end of the tailgate, yes. However the tailgate has a bulge in the center that requires the whole reinforcement to be formed larger to fit. If the gap at the ends bugs anyone, they're welcome to pinch them in a bit and manually arc the lip on the outside. I did that to mine when I had one on my '07 Tacoma. A small block of wood and dead blow hammer along with a little patience not to over work it too quick tends to work well.

I haven't recieved my tailgate reinforcement and it's been just over a month since I sent payment. Since I don't get a reply from pm or email I need to file a dispute with my cc. I'd still like to get one of these if you are still around.

    Thank you

I thought this was one of the more reliable vendors on TW. Seems some sellers and vendors are dropping the ball lately.
