Ok - I promised to post pics of the parts I used to get this to work.

WeatherTech deflector mounted on the hood. Seems stable enough now.

The end game. This is a more sturdy fastener arrangement than the small plastic screws that fell out of the hood holes for mounting.

I bought two packages of the following Dorman screw assortment from Advance Auto. I think one package may have been enough to give 4 screws.

And two packages of the nylon nut assortment. I had to buy two assortment packages to get enough nylon nuts for 4 mounting locations. I already had some flat washers that I used with the Dorman screws to give the fastener wider coverage on the deflector.

Take the smallest square nylon nut and tap it into the mounting hole. I used a plastic covered automotive hammer to tap the nut into the hood hole. These require some force to fully mount into the hood and that is good.

Here's the length of the smallest trim screw. Note the washer and deflector provided enough clearance between this screw to avoid hitting the hood paint. If I remove the deflector for some reason, I may grind off the point on this screw to make double sure it cannot touch the inside of the hood.

Hopefully, this will hold up over time.
